Summary
The Infection Prevention Manager is an experienced Infection Preventionist responsible for strategic leadership, planning, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention and Control Program. This role ensures compliance with CDC, APIC, DNV-NIAHO®, CMS Conditions of Participation, OSHA, DPH, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, while leading organizational efforts to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and communicable disease risks. In collaboration with the Medical Director of Infection prevention, they will set and monitor the ongoing infection prevention and control (IPC) strategy for AnMed and ensure the achievement of IPC targets. This is a working manager role with duties and responsibilities as an Infection Preventionist as needed by the department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Infection Prevention and Control Program across all care settings.
- Oversees activities of the Infection Preventionists and functions as a Preventionist
- Leads and supervises Infection Prevention staff, including onboarding, competency validation, time and attendance, performance evaluation, and professional development.
- Directs ongoing, systematic surveillance using CDC/NHSN methodology; ensures accuracy, validity, and timeliness of all internal and external reporting.
- Develops, implements, and enforces infection prevention policies, procedures, and guidelines consistent with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards.
- Consults with Medical director of Infection Prevention, Chief quality officer, Director of system quality, and others as needed about clusters of organisms, disease trends and other IPC concerns.
- Leads after action review teams for hospital acquired infections and identifies action items to improve care
- Serves as organizational subject matter expert and advisor to leadership on infection prevention risks and mitigation strategies.
- Leads the annual Infection Prevention Risk Assessment and annual program evaluation; ensuresalignment with organizational priorities and emerging risks.
- Ensures routine and targeted infection prevention rounding in all clinical and non-clinical areas, including follow-up and validation of corrective actions.
- Reports surveillance data, trends, and performance improvement outcomes to the Infection Prevention Oversite Committee, Quality Committees, and executive leadership.
- Collaborates with Nursing staff development to provide education, training, and competency programs related to hand hygiene, PPE, isolation precautions, HAI prevention, reprocessing, and high-risk practices.
- Coordinates communicable disease reporting and response with state and local public health authorities.
- Supports emergency preparedness, construction risk assessments, and response to emerging and novel pathogens.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Respiratory, Medical Lab or other related public health field
- Specialized knowledge: Advanced knowledge of Principles of Epidemiology and infectious disease; Infectious disease laws and regulations; and public health/communicable diseases policy and procedures
- Skills: Skill in identifying problems and recommending/implementing solutions. Able to prepare and maintain records and written reports, as well as competence in oral presentations. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital and medical staff, and the public. Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively with multiple constituents. Proficient in negotiating complex systems to promote positive change. Proficient in computer usage; particularly database and spreadsheet analysis. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to ensure a safe working environment.
- Abilities: Ability to interpret, adapt, apply, and ensure appropriate compliance with guidelines and procedures. Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking.
- Professional certification: Certification in Infection prevention required. RN license required if RN.
- Experience: 3-5 years infection prevention experience in a hospital setting required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership in a hospital-based infection prevention program.
- Master’s degree in nursing, or public health field.
