Job Description
In this role, the Production Control Specialist is responsible for keeping work moving efficiently through the manufacturing process, from initial job release to final delivery. The position focuses on maintaining workflow, ensuring materials and assemblies are in place when needed, and quickly addressing issues that could impact schedule or output.
This role is hands-on in coordinating job setup, releasing work orders, and tracking progress across the floor. It includes monitoring work-in-progress, identifying potential delays, and working with the appropriate teams to keep production on track. When priorities shift or challenges arise, Production Control helps adjust plans in real time to minimize disruption.
You’ll work closely with planning, production, purchasing, engineering, quality, and logistics to keep everything aligned and moving forward. Success in this role means staying ahead of issues, maintaining clear communication across teams, and helping ensure on-time delivery of quality products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage work orders to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) across the shop floor to ensure jobs move through each stage of manufacturing efficiently
- Coordinate with purchasing and stockroom teams to confirm material availability and resolve shortages
- Identify potential schedule delays or bottlenecks and work with the appropriate teams to correct them
- Track job status from release to completion, ensuring accurate and timely flow of production
- Support daily production activities by communicating priorities and updates to the planning team
- Partner with quality to ensure jobs meet internal standards and required specifications
- Adjust priorities as needed based on production demands, customer requirements, or material constraints
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with production, planning, engineering, purchasing, and logistics teams
- 1–2 years of experience in production control, production planning, scheduling, or a related manufacturing role
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and basic understanding of work orders and BOMs
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with data for tracking and reporting
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple departments
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities
- High school diploma or equivalent required
