About This Position

Job Title: Team Lead – (Working Lead)

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly

Hours: 1st shift (7:30am - 4:00pm)

Job Summary

The Team Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating daily operations within their assigned team to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals. This is a "Working Lead" role, where up to 60% of the time will involve performing direct production tasks within the team. The Team Lead acts as a liaison between associates and the supervisor, ensuring adherence to standard work, resolving immediate issues on the floor, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Safety:

o Promote and enforce safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace.

o Conduct daily safety checks, address hazards immediately, and ensure proper use of PPE.

o Lead by example in maintaining a safe working environment and retrain team members as needed.

Production Oversight:

o Monitor daily production activities to meet safety, quality, and delivery targets.

o Coordinate workflows, assign tasks, and balance workloads among team members.

o Ensure adherence to Standard Work; identify and escalate deviations to supervisors.

Team Leadership:

o Act as the first point of contact for associates, providing guidance and support.

o Train and cross-train team members to build a flexible and capable workforce.

o Monitor attendance, engagement, and performance, addressing minor issues and escalating significant concerns to supervisors.

Quality Assurance:

o Perform regular quality checks to ensure products meet specifications.

o Address defects or quality concerns immediately and support corrective actions.

o Serve as the area champion for quality standards, promoting a culture of accountability.

Continuous Improvement:

o Participate in Lean initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen events, and Value Stream Mapping.

o Encourage team suggestions for process improvements and collaborate on implementation.

o Maintain and update visual management boards with department metrics.

Communication and Reporting:

o Provide daily updates to the supervisor on team performance, issues, and needs.

o Maintain accurate records of production metrics, downtime, and quality issues.

o Effectively communicate company goals, expectations, and policy updates to team members.

Qualifications

Education:

o High school diploma or GED required; additional training or certifications in Lean or manufacturing preferred.

Required Experience:

o Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience, with demonstrated leadership ability.

o Minimal of 2 years as CNC Machinist (ability to program and edit)

Skills:

o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

o Ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment.

o Knowledge of Lean principles and problem-solving techniques.

o Proficiency with production tracking systems and basic computer skills (e.g., Excel, ERP systems).
