About This Position
Whitworth University seeks a dedicated faculty member to join our Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program as a tenured, open-rank professor. This role involves teaching graduate-level MFT courses while also providing leadership and oversight of clinical training components. The role includes supervising practicum and internship students and mentoring students throughout their academic journeys.
The position supports the academic mission through thesis committee service, participation on the MFT Advisory Board and admissions committee, and involvement with the counseling team. The role contributes to maintaining accreditation compliance, supports implementation of the program's assessment plan, assists with student recruitment, and represents the program at relevant professional meetings. Engagement in ongoing professional development, scholarship, and active participation in state, regional, and national professional associations is also expected.
This role requires a commitment to upholding Whitworth’s mission of academic excellence, faith integration, and service.
Possibility of developing new courses. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental activities and governance, professional and research activities, attending state, regional, and national professional association meetings, attending faculty assemblies, development days, and retreats, serving on committees, and advising.
Salary Information
Assistant/Associate Professor, Marriage and Family Therapy
Term: 10 months (academic year + 1 month summer)
Assistant Professor Salary: $66,191
Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Associate Professor salary: $72,810
Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of Associate Professor.

- Teach graduate Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) courses and other courses in the graduate programs as needed.
- Serves as the Clinical Director of the MFT Program, which has responsibility for coordinating off-campus clinical placements, developing affiliation agreements, training site supervisors, conducting site visits, managing clinical evaluation processes, tracking progress towards completion of clinical training requirements, and developing remediation plans when required.
- Manage operations and supervise students in the MFT Center.
- Supervise and mentor practicum and internship students in the Marriage and Family Therapy program.
- Monitor academic progress of students.
- Develop student growth plans as needed.
- Serve on thesis committees.
- Serve on the Marriage and Family Therapy Advisory Board, and counseling team.
- Assist in ensuring that the MFT program complies with accreditation standards.
- Help oversee the implementation of the MFT assessment plan.
- Attend state/national meetings related to the MFT program as needed.
- Assist with student recruitment for the MFT program.
- Serves on MFT admissions committee.
- Active involvement in appropriate professional and scholarly activities, including research, participation in state, regional, and national professional associations.
Possibility of developing new courses. - Earned Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling, or a closely related field. (ABD candidates with an anticipated graduation date before Dec 2025 will be considered).
- Licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
- A minimum of five years of experience as an MFT.
- Clinical Fellow status with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and Approved Supervisor status with AAMFT (supervisor candidates will be considered).
- Familiarity with COAMFTE’s accreditation standards and policies is desirable.
- University-level teaching experience is desirable.
- Familiarity with the integration of technology in education.
