About This Position

  • Position Summary
    • The Phlebotomist performs a wide variety of tasks to assist the role of the laboratory. The position is primarily responsible for the ordering, processing, and collection of patient blood, urine, and other body fluid samples for laboratory testing. The Phlebotomist may assist the laboratory technicians and management with additional clerical, maintenance, and minor technical duties.

      • Required:
        • High School diploma or GED
      • Preferred:
    • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
      • Required:
        • Valid Drivers License
      • Preferred:
        • Phlebotomy Tech Certification
    • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
      • Required:
      • Preferred:
        • 3-5 years in a healthcare related field
  • Essential Job Functions
    • Positively identifies all patients, samples, and substances collected for testing. Performs specimen processing in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Greets and assists patients with knowledge and skills necessary to provide excellent customer satisfaction.
    • Performs phlebotomy procedure in accordance to protocol with an acceptable success rate.
    • Demonstrates ability to function in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergent situations.
    • Prioritizes specimen processing as necessary according to patient/facility needs.
    • Performs clerical, cleaning, and other duties necessary for effective Laboratory operation.
    • Communicates effectively with other staff concerning patient processing needs.
    • Participates in the creation of a productive working environment. Maintains positive working relationships with medical staff and hospital personnel. Uses interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote the success of team members.
    • If certified, performs COC collections accurately according to protocol.
    • Participates in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.
    • Contributes to the department quality maintenance and improvement efforts.
    • Takes responsibility in competency program documentation and strives to enhance job performance with continuing educational opportunities.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
