About This Position

The Patient Financial Services Cash Poster will be responsible for achieving accurate and timely posting of all cash and adjustments received on a daily basis from various payers. This includes the daily review of posting to the patient accounting system, correcting errors and reconciling of all cash deposits on a daily basis. This also includes refunds to various payers for inappropriate payments received and distribution of deposits to other cash posters within the department. Additionally daily logs will be kept for the finance department and the cash poster will monitor the scanning of all deposits in document imaging.

Additionally, the Patient Financial Services Cash Poster must take the sum of the aforementioned skills and be able to address customer services in the spirit of continued quality improvement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Education required with a minimum of two to three years experience in an office setting or related field.
  • Experience and proficiency with Windows, spreadsheets (preferably Excel, Word) and document imaging software.
  • Accuracy and speed on a keyboard, (particularly 10 key) is mandatory.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic accounting skills are required

Customer Services

Handles and processes all requests from related departments in a timely and professional manner with accuracy and completeness.

Provides support services (i.e.,co-worker coverage during absence, assistance with job duties, and sharing of continuing education) to all department staff members.

B

Cash Application

1

Has a working knowledge of Professional and Technical reimbursement and contracts so as to be able to calculate the usual and customary rate for any deductibles, coinsurance and/or adjustments.

Must post daily insurance deposit within on day of cash deposit.

3

Must utilize all appropriate Financial System transaction codes for payments and allowances.

4

Cash posted must be reconciled with Financial System accounting reports one day after posting.

5

Reconciled deposits are to be scanned in document imaging by deposit date with a copy of the reconciliation sheet and account report for auditing purposes and filed appropriately.

All unidentified cash will be researched with the payer for correct posting, or be refunded to the payer within 30 days.

7

Claims that are denied by an insurance carrier will receive the appropriate zero balance code.

Accompaniment

To take on special projects to assist the manager

Able to use Excel programs and be knowledgeable to enter data and get the desired output presentations.

Able to coordinate the daily work flows in the absence of the manager.

Training of new employees in their duties.

D.

Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to:

  • Mandatory education
  • Annual health assessment

1.

Continuing education records will be completed and forwarded to Human Resources annually regarding manda-tory educational requirements.

2.

Complete annual health assessment form as required, maintains current inoculations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 25 lb., lift/move 15 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.

Salary Range: $15.84-22.96 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
