Job Description
Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory, boarding and day school with enrollment of 750 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California. The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach. The Lower/Middle Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stevenson is a mission driven school that aims to help students shape joyful lives while instilling a passion for learning and achievement to prepare them for success in school and beyond.
Stevenson School is seeking a Humanities (History and/or English) Teacher, Grades 5-8, to start by or before August 1, 2026. The ideal candidate will possess content expertise and demonstrated ability to draw on a variety of pedagogical approaches to support a wide array of learning styles and abilities in the teaching of humanities to this age group. The History/English teacher will be a member of the Middle Division Faculty team on the Carmel campus.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teach English curriculum to students in assigned grade level sections.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver comprehensive, student-centered curriculum.
- Support student learning by incorporating a variety of pedagogical approaches to facilitate understanding across an array of learning styles.
- Develop students’ critical thinking, intellectual, and social-emotional skills.
- Collaborate with learning specialists to identify and support those students requirin additional resources or enrichment activities to promote optimal engagement with thei learning.
- Communicate with students, parents, and colleagues in a timely and professiona manner.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in English, education, or related; master’s preferred.
- A minimum of three years of previous Humanities teaching at a similar grade level.
- Excellent classroom management skills.
- Demonstrated confidence and aptitude with the use of instructional technology, such as Google suite for education and related resources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with all members of the community.
- Demonstrated interest in being part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and the integrity of all aspects of informationdisseminated within or external to the school community.
- Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community.
This is a full-time, 10-month per year position. The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $90,000, based on experience. In addition to competitive salary Stevenson offers a substantial benefits package including retirement plan contributions, a choice of Anthem medical plans with generous premium coverage provided by the School, vision and dental group plans and support of ongoing professional development. Stevenson offers housing and fuel stipends for eligible employees. Meals are provided throughout the day when school is in session.
