Job Description
Core Role
Provides skilled, age-specific nursing care under a Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing (DON). [1]
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Care: Assesses patients and administers medications safely.
- Care Planning: Identifies nursing problems and designs clinical plans.
- Advocacy: Acts as a patient advocate and health educator.
- Compliance: Follows all Valleywise Health policies and procedures.
- Documentation: Completes and processes all medical records accurately.
- Supervision: Guides ancillary staff indirectly when directed.
- Improvement: Joins team-building and quality improvement initiatives. [1, 2, 3]

Hourly Pay Rate: $51.00
Qualifications
Education:
- Requires a Bachelor’s or higher in Nursing.
Experience:
- Must have at least one (1) year of recent acute care hospital RN experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities or if completed the New Grad RN program at Valleywise Health, must have at least one year of Valleywise Health experience as a RN and be in good standing.
- Previous acute care hospital experience in the area for which he or she is applying for is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
- Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, a temporary AZ RN license, or a valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
- Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing.
- Requires a BLS card obtained through an American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire.
- In addition, certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice:
- Burn Center ICU: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain PALS within six (6) months. Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- The ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must.
- Bilingual is preferred.
- Must have excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills.
- Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g., formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer successfully.
- Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
