Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY (Describe the overall duties and responsibilities of the job):

  1. Responsible for the effective staffing, training, and development of all Plant associates
  2. Responsible for the effective communication and enforcement of all company policies and expectations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties required for successful job performance):

  1. Administers company policies by guiding and informing all associates of appropriate/expected actions and behaviors, documenting performance and behavior issues, determining and applying appropriate discipline, guiding other Managers and Supervisors through handling and documenting issues, and working with Corporate HR on issues involving terminations / harassment / other similar or more serious behaviors. 40%
  2. Manages personnel recruitment and retention by working with local contract agencies, conducting interviews, determining who to offer employment to, and effectively managing the onboarding process. 10%
  3. Manages the Plant training function by oversight of the new hire orientation process, verifying effective completion of new hire training requirements, delivering various training as needed, and managing the accurate completion and disposition of training documentation. 10%
  4. Administers Plant annual review and talent development programs by preparing and facilitating the completion of all hourly annual reviews, reviewing all Salaried Performance & Development System documents (goal-setting, competency assessment, and annual reviews), working with all local Managers to refine their SPDS documents as needed for effectiveness, and ensuring timely completion of all SPDS documents by managers / supervisors at their facility. 10%
  5. Facilitates effective associate morale and retention by insuring equitable and legal treatment of associates, fair and equal enforcement of policies, effectively managing recognition methods (service awards, Employee of the Month, employee appreciation events, etc.). 10%
  6. Provides supervision, guidance, development, and support to all plant Human Resources personnel, including plant Environmental Health & Safety personnel. 10%
  7. Develops effective department business plan by determining department needs, prioritizing, and planning / managing departmental budget. 5%
  8. Oversees and administers Plant hourly wage and compensation programs by ensuring accurate payroll data to Corporate HR, managing (and working with Corporate HR on) local benefits administration, conducting local wage surveys, etc. 5%

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (These are the traditional minimum, or required, bona-fide occupational qualifications and other requirements of most people in this job).

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or business-related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum three years’ experience in Human Resources, with demonstrated expertise in labor / employee relations, Workers’ Compensation, Employment.

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal communication, listening, etc.)
  2. High in leadership skills and integrity
  3. Strong conflict / performance management skills
  4. Good organizational and time management skills; Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  5. Ability to effectively present and train
  6. Ability to quickly and effectively make decisions and act on them
  7. Good MS-Office skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  8. Basic budgeting skills
  9. Ability and knowledge to interpret basic employment and labor law
  10. Ability to effectively assess / audit / kaizen processes and procedures

REQUIRED DECISION-MAKING AND ORGANIZATION IMPACT (Describe the typical types of decisions made by employees in this job and the likely impact of those decisions on the Company).

  1. “Administers company policy…” - If actions and/or decisions are not effective, the company may be susceptible to legal proceedings, poor morale and retention, and successful union activity.
  2. “Manages the Plant training function…” – If training is not effective, the company will tend to be less efficient, produce more scrap / waste / defects, and less able to meet customer expectations, resulting in higher costs and potential loss of sales.
  3. “Administers Plant annual review and talent development programs...” – If the company cannot adequately assess and develop talent, its performance is stagnant, it struggles to attract and retain good talent, and routinely has to look outside for talent when existing talent moves up or out.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS (Indicate job titles for this job’s supervisor and direct reports).

  • This position reports directly to the Plant Manager, with dotted line reporting to the Director of HR
  • Direct reports include all other plant-level HR and EHS positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS (Describe the environment within which the work is performed).

  1. Primarily office environment, with occasional time spent on factory floor (10-20%)
  2. Infrequent travel is possible, mostly day trips

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Able to travel within the manufacturing area via main aisle ways
  2. Periodically may require keyboarding for extended periods of time
