Active Security designs, develops, implements, and sustains advanced C5ISR and security solutions to enhance defense and mission capabilities, addressing threats across physical, electronic, cyber, and communications security for Mission Critical Commercial and U.S. Government clients. Our teams are essential in installing, programming, maintaining, and repairing these complex systems in high-security environments, ensuring compliance with codes, client specifications, and internal standards.

Job Summary:

The Systems Engineer designs, engineers, and documents integrated electronic security systems, communications equipment, network infrastructure, and associated support systems for enterprise customers. Serve as the technical authority for system architecture, configuration management, and quality assurance across the project lifecycle. Provide technical expertise and pre- and post-sale design support to sales, installation, service, and maintenance teams, ensuring all solutions meet relevant codes, customer requirements, manufacturer specifications, and internal company standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop system architecture, engineering designs, and integration approaches for enterprise electronic security systems, including access control, intrusion detection, CCTV and video surveillance, alarm systems, communications equipment, and related network infrastructure.
  • Provide post-sale engineering support to installation, service, and technician teams during commissioning, diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software, and network problems.
  • Program, configure, test, and validate security devices and system integrations to confirm proper functioning, interoperability, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Examine hardware and software systems to locate and correct configuration problems, applying troubleshooting principles and manufacturer specifications.
  • Evaluate new products, technologies, industry standards, and engineering principles, and make recommendations regarding standardization and adoption.
  • Train and provide technical guidance to technician, service, sales, and marketing teams.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and network related problems that affect system performance and end users of the network.
  • Ensure all work and designs are in accordance with relevant codes, customer requirements, manufacturer specifications, and internal company standards.
  • Coordinate with project leadership, manufacturer representatives, and other professional service resources on unusual or complex technical challenges.
  • Perform a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Requirements:

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience related to the job duties of this position is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Industry and manufacturer certifications relevant to integrated security systems and network infrastructure are strongly preferred.

Technical Expertise:

  • Access control systems (Lenel, CCURE, Genetec, AMAG, Avigilon, or similar)
  • Video Management Systems (VMS)
  • Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
  • Network infrastructure and IP-based systems
  • System integration and commissioning

Language Skills:

  • Communicates effectively in both oral and written communications.
  • Communicates with supervisors, peers, subordinates, and other Company staff, working as part of a team contributing to Company goals.
  • Communicates with customers and work site personnel effectively and respectfully.
  • Produces clear, professional engineering documentation and technical correspondence.

Reasoning Ability:

Job requires careful attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions drawing upon experience, research, and input from peers. This position performs multiple job tasks on a daily basis and balances competing design and project priorities. Must be able to discuss unusual or complex problems with project leadership, manufacturer representatives, or other professional service resources for input or direction.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The role involves extended periods of computer and design work. During site visits and commissioning activities, the position may require occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and periods of standing, bending, reaching, and climbing.

This position is performed primarily in an office or engineering environment, with periodic travel to customer and project sites. While performing site duties, the employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions, from over 100 degrees to below 0 degrees, and to various climates and conditions. Wearing of safety clothing and equipment may at times be required. Sensitive, high security facilities such as detention centers, data centers, and Government facilities are typical work locations. Employees must be procedurally organized and exhibit high levels of professional appearance and personal conduct.

  • Screening Requirements: Candidates must pass a background check, have a valid driver’s license, and be eligible for U.S. Government Security Clearance.
