This is a remote, full-time senior underwriting opportunity focused on specialized recreational marine risks.
You will manage new business and complex renewals across marinas, boat dealers, boat builders, yacht clubs, and rental boat operations.

The position offers the opportunity to influence product expertise, loss control, service quality, and continuous improvement.
It is well suited to an experienced commercial underwriter who brings strong industry knowledge, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Accountabilities:
  • Underwrite new business and large commercial renewals within the recreational marine segment, balancing risk selection with rate, retention, growth, and profitability objectives.
  • Evaluate accounts involving recreational marinas, boat dealers, boat builders, yacht clubs, rental boat operations, and related marine businesses.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and mentorship to Analysts, Raters, Underwriting Assistants, Junior Underwriters, and other underwriting team members.
  • Delegate work appropriately while supporting team development, technical expertise, and consistent underwriting practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agencies and brokers across an assigned territory, including conducting regular quarterly visits.
  • Act as a primary resource for brokers, providing timely and accurate guidance on policies, coverage, billing, underwriting decisions, and other inquiries.
  • Participate in relevant industry events and educational seminars, occasionally serving as a speaker to strengthen market knowledge and industry relationships.
  • Coordinate loss control activities and support risk-management efforts designed to improve portfolio performance.
  • Verify issued policies against quotes, applicable state requirements, carrier regulations, and operational standards, maintaining a target accuracy rate of 99%.
  • Respond to agency communications within one business day while maintaining high service standards and efficient underwriting operations.
  • Contribute to product expertise, professional training, continuous improvement initiatives, and departmental objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education from a four-year college or technical institution, or at least 10 years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong experience in commercial underwriting, with relevant expertise in recreational marine or comparable specialty insurance markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to underwrite complex new business and large renewals while balancing growth, risk quality, retention, and profitability.
  • Strong knowledge of recreational marine risks, ideally including marinas, boat dealerships, boat builders, yacht clubs, and rental boat operations.
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills for evaluating risks, coverage, pricing, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong broker and agency relationship-management capabilities, with confidence engaging stakeholders across an assigned territory.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities, with the capacity to guide underwriting professionals and promote consistent best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide clear and timely responses to brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to continue professional development through industry education and external courses.
  • AIMU, CIC, or CPCU designation is preferred.
Benefits:
  • Remote, full-time position in the United States.
  • Annual salary range of $90,000–$150,000, with final compensation dependent on factors such as experience, geography, and business requirements.
  • Medical and prescription drug coverage.
