Position Summary

Bluefield University invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty to teach business courses as instructional needs arise. Adjunct faculty support the University's Christ-centered mission by providing academically rigorous, student-focused instruction and by helping students connect business theory with professional practice and servant leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

• Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate business courses in areas consistent with academic preparation and professional expertise.
• Prepare and deliver course content in accordance with approved course outcomes, syllabi, academic policies, and program expectations.
• Engage students through effective instruction, timely feedback, assessment of student learning, and appropriate availability outside scheduled class time.
• Use University learning-management, communication, and instructional technologies as required for the assigned course modality.
• Maintain accurate course records, submit grades and required reports on time, and communicate promptly with the dean or program leadership.
• Participate in orientation, training, assessment, and other limited faculty responsibilities as requested for adjunct instructors.
• Support Bluefield University's mission and contribute to a learning environment characterized by integrity, respect, academic excellence, and servant leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in business or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with appropriate graduate-level preparation in the teaching discipline.
• A terminal degree may be required or preferred for certain graduate or doctoral assignments.
• Demonstrated professional expertise relevant to the assigned course(s).
• Ability to communicate effectively and to work successfully with students from varied backgrounds and levels of professional experience.
• Commitment to the mission and Christian identity of Bluefield University.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior college-level teaching experience.
• Experience teaching online or in multiple instructional modalities.
• Relevant professional certifications, leadership experience, or significant applied business experience.

Appointment and Compensation

Adjunct appointments are made on a course-by-course basis according to enrollment and instructional need. Compensation is based on the University's approved adjunct faculty pay schedule. Appointment does not guarantee future teaching assignments.

Undergraduate - Adjunct Teaching and Overload Compensation

• If a 3-credit course has between 2 and 3 students, the instructor will be paid:
  • $600 per course
  • 1 enrolled student – Independent Study rate of $100 per credit hour
• If a 3-credit course has between 4 and 6 students, the instructor will be paid:
  • $1,200 per course
• If a 3-credit course has between 7 and 22 students, the instructor will be paid:
  • $1,900
• If a 3-credit course has 23 to 30 students, then the instructor will be paid:
  • $2,200
• If a 3-credit course exceeds 30 students, the instructor will be compensated at $2,200 plus $80 per additional student in a course above 30.

Graduate - Adjunct Teaching and Overload Compensation

Graduate adjunct teaching and overload compensation is paid at the base rate of $2,700 per 3-credit course. Graduate faculty teaching low enrollment courses will be compensated at an adjusted rate for the base salary of $2,700.

• If a 3-credit course has between 2 and 3 students, the instructor will be paid:
  • $900 per course

• If a 3-credit course has between 4 and 6 students, the instructor will be paid:
  • $1,800
• If a 3-credit course has between 7 and 22, the instructor will be paid:
