Job Description

Are you ready to use data to drive real-world health solutions? Trenton Health Team (THT) is seeking a Data Analyst to join our Data & Analytics team. In this role, you will provide critical technical and analytic expertise to support our mission of improving health and well-being in Trenton, NJ and the surrounding region. You will partner with both internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver quantitative analysis, develop dashboards and maps, and support program evaluation. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Data Analyst provides a blend of technical and analytic expertise, and empowers staff from across the organization with data-related insights and tools to support decision-making processes. The Data Analyst partners with non-technical colleagues, both internal and external to THT, to provide quantitative analysis, dashboard/scorecard development, and support for other quality improvement and program evaluation efforts.

Major functions include:

  • Quantitative Analysis: Deliver analytics products and detect trends to inform planning and future programming.

  • Data Storytelling Design and track key metrics and visualizations using tools like Tableau and ArcGIS.

  • Collaboration/Communication: Partner with internal and external stakeholders to translate complex data into clear reports and storytelling.


Essential Functions

1. Analytical Services

  • Analyze data, as well as contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of analytics products and services

  • Work with staff across THT to define, measure, and track key metrics that inform organizational planning and future programming

  • Organize large amounts of data and detect critical trends, patterns, and forecasts

  • Present research and analysis in written reports and internal and external presentations that are clear, concise, and easily understood by a range of audiences

  • Collaborate with program teams to develop outcome/output monitoring and evaluation strategies


2. Communication & Collaboration

  • Incorporate insights into reports and storytelling for digital and external communications

  • Leverage data from the Trenton Health Information Exchange (HIE) to drive reporting and decision making

  • Carry out organizational data documentation processes so that all staff can benefit from data and evaluation efforts

  • Identify novel public and proprietary data sources that can help inform and/or measure THT’s work

  • Support external partners with data needs and projects


3. Data Management

  • Adhere to THT’s privacy requirements and ensure the appropriate handling of sensitive information


4. Other Duties

  • Assumes all other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years of data analysis / data science experience, ideally with research related to population health, health policy, or community development

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline

  • Demonstrated professional experience in working with data relating to one or more of public health, epidemiology, health claims, Medicaid and health insurance

  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative data analysis, including descriptive, inferential, and predictive statistics

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to ensure timely deliverables for multiple projects with competing deadlines

  • Ability to organize and project manage analytics efforts using methodologies like Agile

  • Ability to work independently, closely as part of a small team, and also across multiple internal and external teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with electronic health record and medical claims data

  • Prior experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from large and messy datasets

  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior leaders and peers to translate findings into recommendations, especially as it relates to public policy

  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative methodologies

  • Demonstrated writing, communication, and data-driven storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience


COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Core: Proficiency in Google Workspace.

  • Tools: Proficiency in at least two of the following:

    • SQL queries

    • Statistical programming languages (R, Python, or Stata)

    • Data visualization tools (Tableau or ArcGIS)

    • Salesforce

  • Integration: Experience connecting to external data sources (cloud data warehouses, APIs).
