Function:
Goodwill Manasota is seeking a creative, organized, and people-centered Marketing Specialist - Content & Social Media to bring our mission, impact, and community partnerships to life across our social channels. This role translates organizational priorities into clear, engaging stories; manages day-to-day social content and community engagement; and partners across the organization to create timely, accurate, accessible, and brand-aligned content.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Strategy & Storytelling
• Executes the organization’s content and social media strategy under the direction of the Marketing, Communications & Engagement Manager.
• Develops and maintains a detailed content calendar aligned with organizational campaigns, events, mission stories, retail priorities, donor initiatives, and community opportunities.
• Writes, proofreads, and edits clear, accurate, accessible, brand-aligned copy for social media, email, SMS, website updates, blogs, flyers, presentations, campaigns, and internal communications.
• Develops mission-centered stories that respectfully highlight participants, team members, donors, shoppers, partners, volunteers, and community impact while following consent and privacy requirements.
• Coordinates content collection with departments and locations, including interviews, photography, approvals, release forms, supporting facts, and publication timelines.
• Maintains brand voice, editorial standards, terminology, grammar, and message consistency across assigned channels.
• Ensures content is accessible and inclusive, including captions, alternative text, readable formatting, and plain-language practices.
Social Media & Community Management
• Owns day-to-day management of assigned social media channels, including publishing, scheduling, monitoring, community management, and escalation of sensitive comments or issues.
• Creates platform-specific content, including copy, graphics coordination, photography, short-form video, reels, stories, live content, polls, and other engagement formats.
• Monitors social conversations, messages, reviews, tags, and audience sentiment; responds according to approved protocols and promptly escalates service, risk, or reputation concerns.
• Provides live and post-event social coverage for organizational, philanthropic, retail, mission, team member, and community events.
• Supports influencer and community partner activations by coordinating content needs, schedules, deliverables, approvals, tracking, and relationship follow-up.
• Maintains current knowledge of platform changes, content trends, creator practices, community-management standards, and emerging social formats.
Photo, Short-Form Video & Campaign Support
• Captures and edits short-form video and photography for social media, events, team member stories, mission impact, retail, donations, and community engagement.
• Coordinates with the Creative Services Manager on creative requests, visual assets, templates, campaign materials, and brand consistency.
• Develops email and SMS content with the marketing team, ensuring messaging, audiences, links, creative, and calls to action align with campaign strategy.
• Supports paid social campaigns by developing and testing copy, creative concepts, audience-relevant messages, and content variations.
• Assists with public relations execution, internal communications, special events, community outreach, campaign logistics, and other marketing needs.
Measurement & Content Operations
• Tracks social and content performance, including reach, engagement, video views, audience growth, traffic, sentiment, and conversions; provides insights and recommendations.
• Conducts content testing and optimization, including message, format, posting time, call to action, thumbnail, caption, and creative variations.
• Identifies content opportunities through social listening, community trends, organizational milestones, stakeholder feedback, and performance data.
• Maintains an organized library of approved copy, photography, short-form video, testimonials, releases, campaign assets, and evergreen content.
• Provides backup support to the marketing team and performs other duties consistent with the role.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Three to five years of experience in content creation, social media management, communications, digital marketing, or a similar role.
• Excellent writing, editing, verbal communication, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
• Demonstrated ability to create platform-specific social content and capture and edit photography and short-form video.
• Working knowledge of social media publishing, community management, accessibility practices, and analytics tools.
• Creative, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while providing responsive, world-class communication and service.
• Nonprofit experience preferred.
Special Requirements:
• This position is safety-sensitive and requires drug testing.
• This role may require access to facility keys and alarm systems.
• Must be able to work occasional after-hours and weekends. This position may require occasional travel or travel to multiple locations in a day.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a privately owned, reliable means of transportation to travel throughout Goodwill Manasota territories and visit stores, programs, events, and other locations as necessary.
• This position may require personal auto insurance, review of the team member’s motor vehicle record, and completion of a road or driving test.
