Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Team Lead based in Canada.
This is a fully remote technical leadership opportunity focused on building a scalable, AI-enabled data migration platform from the ground up.
You’ll own the architecture across the complete migration lifecycle, from data extraction and transformation through orchestration and go-live.
The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, requiring strong architectural judgment and a high standard for data quality.
You’ll work closely with product leadership to turn complex migration challenges into focused, buildable platform capabilities.
The team operates with autonomy, clear ownership, short delivery cycles, and disciplined technical tradeoffs.
You’ll also explore practical applications of AI to improve migration assessment, mapping, validation, and engineering workflows.
Your work will directly contribute to making customer migrations faster, more predictable, scalable, and trustworthy.
Own the end-to-end architecture for the migration pipeline, including extraction, transformation, synchronization, and orchestration.
Translate technical strategy into practical, incremental platform capabilities alongside the engineering team.
Develop deep expertise in the underlying legal data model and how data maps to application behavior, workflows, and customer outcomes.
Build a strong understanding of legal practice management and accounting workflows, data relationships, and customer challenges.
Design migration systems with a high standard for correctness, scalability, observability, traceability, and data integrity.
Establish repeatable go-live patterns that make migrations faster, more predictable, and easier for customers to adopt.
Partner with technical product leadership to define priorities, sequence delivery, manage scope, and make pragmatic architectural tradeoffs.
Identify opportunities to use AI for migration assessment, data mapping, validation, transformation, and engineering workflows where it can create durable value.
Lead and mentor the engineering team while establishing high technical standards for implementation, documentation, maintainability, and handoffs.
Serve as a technical point of contact for migration and operations teams, ensuring architectural decisions align with delivery and customer requirements.
8+ years of experience building data-intensive backend systems, including experience leading architecture across an engineering team.
Demonstrated ability to reverse engineer application systems through detailed analysis of underlying data structures and storage.
Deep experience designing and operating reliable data pipelines and ETL/ELT systems, including extraction, change data capture, transformation, and orchestration at scale.
Strong hands-on experience with modern data technologies, including SQL, a transformation framework such as dbt, and cloud orchestration tools such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Factory.
Strong engineering discipline around correctness, observability, data quality, lineage, traceability, and edge-case management.
Ability to operate as a hands-on technical leader by setting direction, raising engineering standards, and contributing production code.
Strong judgment around scope, sequencing, architecture, and practical delivery tradeoffs.
Experience leading data migration or system-consolidation initiatives is an asset.
Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS applications and systems is an asset.
Experience in legal, fintech, healthcare, or another highly regulated or accuracy-sensitive domain is a plus.
Experience building a new engineering platform or team from the ground up is desirable.
Experience applying AI or LLM technologies responsibly to data mapping, assessment, transformation, or related engineering workflows is a plus.
Strong communication, collaboration, documentation, and technical decision-making skills.
Salary: $170,000–$180,000 annually.
