Job Description

Position Summary

The Assistant Operations Manager - Federal Inspection Station FIS serves as a key member of the airport operations leadership team and acts as the operational deputy to the Operations Manager in the Federal Inspection Station FIS area. Will work in a fast-paced, high-volume airport environment and will be responsible for supporting employees and maintaining service standards This position provides hands-on leadership and oversight of daily airport service operations, ensuring personnel, equipment, and operational activities are managed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company, customer, airport, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Operations Manager with the planning, coordination, and execution of daily airport operations.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and operational support across assigned airport facilities and service areas.
  • Monitor daily operations to ensure staffing, equipment, and resources are properly positioned to meet operational demands.
  • Assist with ramp, terminal, cargo, baggage, passenger service, customs or other airport-related activities As Applicable to the Assigned Contract.
  • Serve as the Operations Manager's designee when needed and provide leadership coverage during the manager's absence.
  • Monitor operational performance and ensure service levels and contractual requirements are consistently met.
  • Respond promptly to operational disruptions, staffing shortages, customer concerns, and other issues.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, reports, schedules, and documentation.
  • Prepare or assist with reports regarding staffing, incidents, productivity, safety, attendance, and operational performance.
  • Support company initiatives designed to improve customer satisfaction and contract performance.

Workforce Management

  • Supervise and provide direction to frontline employees and supervisory personnel.
  • Assist with preparing employee schedules, assigning work, and ensuring
  • Maintain professional relationships with airport representatives, airline personnel, vendors, contractors, and other business partners.

  • Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, productivity, appearance, and adherence to company policies.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and performance feedback in coordination with management and Human Resources.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Assist management with employee relations matters and escalate significant concerns appropriately.

Training & Development

  • Assist with onboarding and orientation of new employees.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct operational, safety, customer service, and job-specific training.
  • Ensure employees understand and follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor employee competency and provide additional coaching or retraining when necessary.
  • Maintain awareness of required training, certifications, and compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, Hospitality, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in Federal Inspection Station FIS
  • Prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous airport, airline, baggage handling, ramp, passenger services, cargo, or related aviation experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use company scheduling, reporting, timekeeping, and operational management systems.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • This is an on-site airport position.
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operationally required.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • May be required to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • May require prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout airport facilities and operational areas.
  • Must be able to safely navigate airport work environments, including ramps, terminals, service areas, and other operational locations.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to operational issues and emergencies.
