Job Description

Principal MCP/AI Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal MCP/AI Developer based in Canada.

In this role, you will be a key technical leader shaping the next generation of agentic AI systems powering advanced 2D and 3D visualization experiences. You will define the architecture and technical strategy behind an AI-driven platform that enables users to interact with complex models through natural language and intelligent agents. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role where you will design scalable ML systems, set evaluation and trust standards, and drive adoption of reusable AI capabilities across multiple product teams. You will operate at the intersection of applied machine learning, distributed systems, and developer platforms, solving highly ambiguous, cross-functional problems. The environment is fast-evolving and innovation-driven, with strong emphasis on production-grade AI, reliability, and responsible deployment. You will act as a force multiplier, elevating engineering practices and enabling teams to build more intelligent and composable AI experiences.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and lead the technical strategy for an agentic AI platform, including MCP tool/capability models, orchestration frameworks, memory/context systems, and retrieval architectures.
  • Establish end-to-end AI system standards covering evaluation, quality, safety, latency, cost optimization, and model selection strategies (prompting vs fine-tuning).
  • Design and enforce trust and reliability mechanisms such as traceability, auditability, human-in-the-loop workflows, confidence scoring, and system reversibility.
  • Drive cross-team technical initiatives across multiple products, aligning engineering, product, and applied AI stakeholders around shared architectural patterns.
  • Frame and prioritize complex AI/ML problems, translating ambiguity into scalable, production-ready technical roadmaps.
  • Lead adoption of shared AI frameworks and platform capabilities to improve consistency, scalability, and engineering velocity across teams.
  • Mentor senior engineers and provide technical authority on architecture, performance trade-offs, and long-term platform evolution.
Requirements:
  • 8–12+ years of software engineering experience, including deep expertise in large-scale systems or platform engineering environments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience building and operating production-grade AI/ML systems, including LLMs, agentic frameworks, RAG pipelines, and evaluation systems.
  • Strong background in ML system design, including model selection, fine-tuning strategies, and evaluation/monitoring pipelines.
  • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and scalable architecture design.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional, cross-team initiatives and influence technical direction without direct authority.
  • Strong capability to operate effectively in ambiguous, undefined problem spaces and translate them into structured execution plans.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and product leaders.
  • Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent orchestration frameworks, and composable AI tool architectures.
  • Experience with ML infrastructure, vector databases, retrieval systems, or platform ecosystems is highly valued.
  • Background in visualization systems, 2D/3D rendering, or graphics technologies is a strong advantage.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with senior principal-level engineering roles in Canada.
  • Performance-based bonus structure and potential equity/stock grants depending on eligibility.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and eligible dependents.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote or hybrid options within Canada.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge agentic AI systems and large-scale visualization platforms.
  • High-impact role with strong ownership over platform architecture and technical direction.
  • Learning and development support in advanced AI/ML, distributed systems, and leadership growth.
