Summary

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) provides executive leadership for nursing and clinical services across the Health System, aligning operations with strategic goals to ensure high-quality, safe, cost-effective, and integrated patient care in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Cozad Community Health System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets the overall direction for the CCHS Nursing Departments Med/Surg, Ambulatory Surgery, Surgery, Emergency, Home Health, Anesthesia, Nutrition Services, & Pharmacy.
  • Facilitates alignment between improvement initiatives and the Health System’s strategic plan; directs the day-to-day execution of the strategies and tactics necessary to successfully improve the outcomes and results of the Health System.
  • Oversees patient-focused and team-focused models to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Analyzes and facilitates overall patient care program.
  • Plans, directs, and monitors the scheduling, budgeting, and utilization of human resources to meet staffing needs based on census and acuity of patient needs. Evaluates the education and training needs of patient care personnel. Works closely with the Director of Human Resources to ensure that patient care providers are competent in all care delivery skills.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains the annual operating budget, ensuring that operations are managed within
  • Supports efforts for Department of Health survey readiness/preparation; coordinates activities pre- and post-survey for licensure surveys.
  • Serves on the Senior Leadership and other committees as determined.
  • Follows all HIPAA guidelines and promotes and ensures patient safety.
  • Fulfills mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive and professional environment.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages employees in Nursing, Home Health/Hospice, Emergency, Surgery, Anesthesia, Pharmacy, and Nutrition Services. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, safety and evaluation of these teams. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

A Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or the equivalent required. Advanced Nursing Administration certification and previous healthcare experience in a clinical setting is preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Must maintain status of a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle and complete errands based on business needs.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office and patient care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
