Interior Designers – Commercial + Civic Workplace Studio (All Positions) in Portland, Oregon at LRS Architects Inc
Job Description
Design. People. Trust.
At LRS Architects, we believe great design starts with people. We create thoughtful, engaging environments that support how people work, connect, learn, and experience the world around them.
We are looking for interior designers at different stages of their careers to join our Commercial + Civic Workplace Studio. Whether you are developing your design skills, coordinating complex projects, managing project teams, or leading design vision, we want to hear from you.
Our work spans commercial workplaces and civic environments, including spaces that serve public agencies, communities, and the people who use them every day. We value curiosity, collaboration, thoughtful design, and people who want to make a meaningful impact through their work.
If you enjoy solving problems, exploring ideas, and working with a team that cares about both design and people, LRS could be a great fit.
What You'll Do:
Depending on your experience and role, you may:
- Develop interior design concepts that respond to client goals, project needs, and the people who will use the space.
- Explore space planning, materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, color, and other elements that bring a design together.
- Contribute to workplace strategies that support collaboration, focus, flexibility, wellness, and a strong user experience.
- Develop design presentations, finish palettes, material boards, furniture selections, and other visual tools to communicate design intent.
- Create and coordinate drawings, specifications, and design documentation using Revit and other design tools.
- Collaborate with architects, consultants, interior designers, clients, contractors, and other members of the project team.
- Participate in client meetings, project coordination, design reviews, and construction administration as appropriate to your role.
- Help balance design quality with project budgets, schedules, technical requirements, and constructability.
- Support a collaborative studio culture through knowledge sharing, mentorship, and a willingness to explore new ideas.
Career Levels
We recognize that great interior designers bring different strengths to a team. We are open to a range of experience levels and will consider candidates whose skills, interests, and leadership abilities align with our needs.
Designer | Approximately 1 to 6 years of experience
- You are building your design skills and developing your point of view. You enjoy exploring materials, finishes, furniture, and space planning, and you are excited to contribute ideas while learning from experienced designers.
- You are comfortable working in Revit or eager to grow your skills. You bring curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to collaborate and learn throughout the design process.
Design Coordinator | Approximately 6 to 10 years of experience
- You bring strong design and technical skills and can help carry design concepts into coordinated documentation. You are comfortable balancing creativity with project requirements, coordinating with consultants, and helping keep projects organized and moving forward.
- You understand how design decisions affect budgets, schedules, documentation, and construction. You enjoy working with clients and project teams to create thoughtful, functional spaces while helping less experienced team members grow.
Design Lead | Approximately 10+ years of experience
- You have the experience and skills to supervise, execute, and coordinate project work, helping guide the team through effective communication with the client, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and project staff.
- You help lead the overall design, coordinate design decisions, and guide the development and production of project documentation. You work collaboratively with the Design Manager and project team to maintain design quality, coordinate project information, resolve challenges, and ensure the design intent is carried through the project.
- You bring strong design judgment, technical knowledge, communication, and coordination skills, helping the team deliver thoughtful, well-coordinated design solutions.
Design Manager | Experience aligned with project and team leadership responsibilities
- You have the experience and skills to lead and manage the overall project, balancing client needs, design quality, project delivery, and financial performance. You are responsible for day-to-day project management, including effective communication and coordination with the client, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and project staff.
- You oversee the overall design and design documentation, ensuring the work is coordinated, meets project requirements, and aligns with the project’s goals, budget, and schedule. You also manage project accounting and financial oversight, including monitoring fees, budgets, staffing, and project performance.
- You bring strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, and you know how to keep a project moving while supporting the success of the team and the quality of the work.
Experience ranges are intended as general guidance, not strict requirements. We value demonstrated skills, design thinking, collaboration, and leadership as much as years of experience.
