About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Medical Oncology Department is responsible for conducting comprehensive medical oncology assessments and evaluations of hematology and oncology patients to ensure their medical optimization for the hematology and oncology disease process. Working collaboratively with the medical oncologist, and other advanced practice provider team members, nursing staff, and other ancillary staff members. They review and place orders, interpret diagnostic tests, and develop individualized care to enhance outcomes and patient safety for chemotherapy and treatment plans. They work collaboratively with the medical oncologist for all the patients that they serve.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the state of North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably in a medical oncology area
Preferred:
1. ACLS certification
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of current NCCN guidelines and best practice for hematology and oncology care.
- Ability to perform and or lead program development and implementation.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Manager of the Oncology Service Line & Director of Oncology Services.ACCESS TO INFORMATION:
- Demographic: patient information such as name, date of birth, address, etc.
- Clinical: patient medical record, diagnosis, discharge summary, and other related data.
- Organizational information to include productivity, policy and procedure, and clinical resource management activities.
- Information related to JCAHO, OSHA, CMS, DNV and Infection Control guidelines, and any other regulatory agency requirements
