About This Position

POSITION PURPOSE

  • Maintains and distributes an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for use by the Kidney Center. Prepares dialysate for entire dialysis program. Assists patient care staff with department / patient preparation including patient treatment materials. Ensures proper functioning of Water Room and central water, bi-carb, portable RO units and acid delivery system.

  • High School or Equivalent (GED)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to read, write, hear, speak and comprehend the English language.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Prepares dialysate and ensures there is an adequate amount to satisfy daily requirements.
  2. Orders and maintains stock and non-stock items, ensuring sufficient inventory for appropriate patient care.
  3. Communicates with leadership, staff, vendors regarding supply delivery and notifies leadership of unusual incidents.
  4. Completes microbial monitoring and sanitization / disinfection of all equipment including weekly chemical disinfection of machines, monthly loop disinfection, and quarterly RO disinfection per standards.
  5. Maintains operating logs and quality control records for dialysis equipment.
  6. Assists patient care staff with preparation of treatment supplies, cleaning treatment areas.
  7. Cleans and maintains the water room and related storage areas.
  8. Transports equipment to various locations and floors when necessary to assist the RN providing treatment with needed equipment.
  9. Ensures proper functioning of Water Room and central water system, portable RO units and solution delivery system.
  10. Assists with maintaining all dialysis-related equipment. Collects water samples and follows procedures related to ensuring water quality per policy. Provides testing for verification of the presence and / or absence of sterilant.
  11. Participates with staff education and training related to the water room as directed, including training and maintenance of staff competencies and skills.
  12. Assists in the review and updating of dialysis water policies as needed.
