The Dean of the Chapel provides spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and programmatic direction for the university community. As the senior spiritual officer, the Dean promotes the institution’s faith-based mission by fostering spiritual growth, moral development, and interfaith dialogue. This role is integral to shaping the campus ethos through worship, service, and theological reflection, while supporting the holistic well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary spiritual leader and representative of the university’s religious life.
- Plan, lead, and oversee regular worship services, special ceremonies, and campus-wide observances.
- Provide pastoral care and counseling for students, faculty, and staff, offering support during times of crisis, transition, or celebration.
- Supervise and mentor university chaplains, ministry staff, and student spiritual life leaders.
- Collaborate with academic departments and student affairs to integrate faith and learning.
- Support and promote initiatives related to justice, ethics, community engagement, and service-learning.
- Develop programming that supports interfaith understanding, religious diversity, and inclusion.
- Partner with local religious leaders and faith communities to expand spiritual resources and outreach.
- Manage the Chapel’s budget and administrative operations.
- Serve on the university’s leadership team and contribute to strategic planning and mission alignment.
- Officiate at university ceremonies such as convocations, memorials, and commencements, as requested.
Education
- Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological degree from an accredited seminary or divinity school; Doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in ministry, pastoral leadership, or chaplaincy—preferably within higher education.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
