About This Position

The Student-at-Law / Articling Student will provide administrative and substantive support to the Global Director, Corporate & Legal Affairs, with ancillary duties towards the Director, Regulatory & Government Relations. This position will take carriage of entry- to mid-level contract, drafting, and research functions as well as specific short-term projects as directed by Legal and Regulatory.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities

· Fulfilling contract requests, including first drafts on Peak’s templates, initial review of external templates, and carriage of entry- to mid-level negotiations (including supply and distribution contracts);
· Research assignments and memo drafts addressing legal and regulatory developments related to cannabis and Peak’s business at large;

· Regulatory support, including supplemental review of labels and marketing materials;

· Carriage of entry-level litigation up to and including pleadings and appearances in Small Claims Court, as required;

· Due diligence assessments on potential clients;

· Note-taking, record-keeping, and other administrative / organizational tasks, including maintenance of the contract management system;

· Ad-hoc assignments as requested by the Directors of Legal & Regulatory.


Qualifications Required:

· J.D. or equivalent, preferably from a Canadian law school;

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.


Experience Required:

· Past work experience with a law firm or a start-up preferred;

· Editorial experience (i.e. law journals) preferred, but not required;

· Experience with regulated industries a plus, but not required.


Skills & Knowledge:

· Drafting & editing at a high level of proficiency and attention to detail;

· Adaptability in a fast-paced environment;

· Communication and coordination with various departments;

· Quick to learn and assimilate knowledge regarding company processes and operations;

· Able to work independently and prioritize tasks according to the company’s needs.
