GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are now seeking to add to our team. We are looking for a Human Resource Specialist to join our team in Hawaii, working out of our office in either Maui or Oahu.
Position Summary
We’re looking for a collaborative, detail-oriented HR Specialist to join our Hawaii-based team. In this role, you’ll support HR operations across Goodfellow Bros. and affiliated companies in Hawaii. You’ll play a key role in onboarding, leave management, HR compliance, and employee support, helping to create a positive workplace culture that reflects “The Goodfellow Way.”
Essential Functions
Customer Service & HR Admin
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR inquiries
- Respond clearly and accurately to employee and manager questions
- Maintain employee records and prepare HR communications and reports
- Support various HR projects and process improvements
Onboarding
- Draft offer letters for new hires and interns
- Coordinate onboarding logistics and conduct new hire orientations
- Support onboarding for both regular hires and summer interns
Employee Relations
- Alert the HR Manager to any employee relations concerns
- Assist in investigations and prepare documentation
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and confidential work environment
Leave Administration
- Manage leaves of absence (FMLA, TDI, workers' comp, etc.)
- Coordinate with employees, managers, and our leave vendor
- Ensure compliance with Hawaii and federal leave laws
- Provide timely and clear instructions to employees on leave processes
Additional Duties
- Use internal systems (Vista, VistaWeb, ETA) to process HR data
- Collaborate with corporate and regional HR teams
- Generate reports and assist with ADA and extended leave cases as needed

This position offers a salary range of $58,000 to $68,000 annually.

Required Education, Experience, and Technical Knowledge
- Candidates must have the legal right to work in the US without employer sponsorship.
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience
- Solid knowledge of HR best practices and Hawaii employment law
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
