We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Roll Tooling Technician to join our production floor. This role is responsible for inspecting, polishing, and maintaining critical tube mill roll tooling using precision measurement equipment and manual lathes to ensure seamless, high-quality manufacturing operations. This position is entry level for the G&L Tube Tool Room and the candidate will be expected to learn to operate other machine tools over time and develop the skills necessary to advance in the tool room.
So, what will you be doing as a Roll Tooling Technician?
- Carefully inspect tube mill rolls and equipment using micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, and bore gauges.
- Accurately complete and file all required inspection records.
- Operate a small engine lathe to polish roll tooling, utilizing various grades of sandpaper and polishing compounds to restore exact surface finishes.
- Fabricate ID gas lines and create new collets for score and break cutters.
- Polish, maintain, and sharpen other shop tools as needed.
- Strictly follow all facility safety rules and protocols at all times.
- Maintain a highly organized workspace by practicing "Clean as you go".
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Strict adherence to safety policies.
- Previous experience operating an engine lathe, combined with a working familiarity with tube mill operations, is highly preferred.
- Ability to interpret exact measurement guidelines and log quality-control data.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and specifications.
- Willingness to work in a physically demanding environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
