Job Description

AHD Manager, Respiratory Care Services

SUMMARY: Under general direction, the AHD Manager, Respiratory Care Services manages and directs the daily operations of the Respiratory Care Services Department, Neuro-diagnostic Services, Pulmonary Function Laboratory across two community hospital facilities. Assures delivery of quality patient care, directs, evaluates and initiates disciplinary actions for practitioners and aides assigned to the department. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Assures the establishment and maintenance of administrative systems and operational processes that support the delivery of high-quality patient care and promote employee engagement and satisfaction. Monitors the availability and utilization of departmental reference materials; ensures compliance with standards established by state, federal, regulatory, and accrediting agencies; encourages staff participation by soliciting and incorporating recommendations when appropriate; responds promptly to employee concerns and grievances; evaluates patient care and departmental operational priorities and adjusts staffing and resources as needed; and interprets, implements, and enforces applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

2. Assures the establishment and maintenance of an effective organizational structure within assigned areas of responsibility and promotes the efficient and cost-effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and supplies. Monitors staffing utilization and compliance with personnel policies and labor regulations; evaluates the adequacy, availability, and operational readiness of equipment and supplies necessary to support patient care and departmental operations.

3. Communicates regularly with leadership regarding departmental activities, operational trends, staffing, resource utilization, program development, performance outcomes, needs, and challenges. Collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care services and support organizational goals and initiatives.

4. Contributes to the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, performance standards, and quality improvement initiatives. Monitors employee performance and achievement of established standards; participates in recruitment, interviewing, selection, promotion, and retention activities; oversees the completion of performance evaluations; and supports the planning and implementation of educational programs for employees, students, and affiliated learners.

5. Promotes effective communication and collaborative working relationships among medical staff, department personnel, and interdisciplinary teams. Ensures the implementation and evaluation of individualized respiratory care plans; assesses departmental performance and service delivery; develops and implements programs to address current and anticipated patient care needs; and conducts routine rounds to evaluate patient care activities, operational effectiveness, and staff support requirements.

6. Monitors programs that support continuity of care, patient and family education, infection prevention practices, and coordination of services with other departments and disciplines.

7. Participates in the development, implementation, and monitoring of patient care standards, documentation requirements, quality assurance measures, and performance improvement activities. Ensures compliance with established standards and monitors outcomes to support continuous quality improvement.

8. Collaborates with affiliated educational institutions in the planning and coordination of clinical training experiences for respiratory care students and other learners. Supports the effective operation and ongoing development of clinical education programs.

9. Prepares documentation and business justifications to support the enhancement and expansion of respiratory care services. Develops recommendations related to staffing, equipment, supplies, contracts, capital improvements, and departmental budgets.

10. Provides leadership and guidance to support the continuous improvement of departmental programs, operational processes, and patient care services across assigned facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field; Graduate of an AARC approved school of Respiratory Therapy.

Preferred Education: Master's degree in healthcare preferred.

Required Experience: Five years managing respiratory care services in a critical care setting within an acute care facility. Ten years of overall critical care experience in an acute care facility.

Preferred Experience: Experience managing multiple sites preferred.

Required Credentialing: Current Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialing from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Required Licenses: Current Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license with the Respiratory Care Board of California.

Required Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support Certification - issued by AHA-American Heart Association; ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification-AHA American Heart Association.

Preferred Certifications: PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support - issued by AHA-American Heart Association; NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification – issued by APP-American Academy of Pediatrics.

Pay Range: $57.99/hour - $96.66/Hour

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. Alameda Health System also offers eligible positions a generous comprehensive benefits program.
