Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager, Non-Linear Productivity based in Canada.
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to build and lead a high-impact team focused on improving developer productivity through innovative, scalable solutions.
This role offers the opportunity to create a new operating model from the ground up, identifying and eliminating critical engineering friction points across the software development lifecycle.
You will combine technical depth, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to drive measurable improvements in engineering efficiency and system performance.
Working closely with engineering teams and senior leadership, you will define priorities, establish success metrics, and deliver solutions that create lasting organizational value.
The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguous environments, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is motivated by creating step-change improvements rather than incremental gains.
This is a unique opportunity to influence how large-scale engineering organizations build, test, and deliver software in an AI-enabled future
The Senior Engineering Manager, Non-Linear Productivity will own the vision, execution, and measurable impact of a strategic productivity initiative. This role combines engineering leadership, technical exploration, and organizational influence to identify root causes of inefficiencies and implement solutions that improve developer workflows at scale.
- Define and continuously refine the operating model for productivity improvements, including how friction points are identified, prioritized, measured, and resolved.
- Build and lead a small, highly specialized engineering team focused on solving the highest-impact challenges across the software development lifecycle.
- Recruit, evaluate, and develop exceptional engineers while establishing effective team structures, technical standards, and operating practices.
- Identify opportunities for significant productivity improvements across areas such as CI/CD reliability, testing efficiency, developer tooling, workflow optimization, and AI-assisted development.
- Establish baselines and measurement frameworks for key engineering performance indicators, ensuring decisions are driven by data and measurable outcomes.
- Lead technical investigations, validate improvement opportunities, and guide the implementation of scalable solutions rather than short-term fixes.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders and cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are adopted effectively and deliver sustainable improvements.
- Communicate progress, results, challenges, and recommendations to senior leadership through clear metrics and strategic reporting.
- Develop reusable frameworks, best practices, and playbooks that enable broader adoption of successful productivity improvements.
- Ensure technical changes maintain system reliability, reduce operational risks, and support long-term engineering excellence.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineering leader with experience building autonomous teams, improving developer ecosystems, and delivering measurable operational outcomes. You should combine strong technical judgment with the ability to influence teams and executives in a fast-moving environment.
- Proven experience leading small, high-performing engineering teams focused on developer productivity, infrastructure, platform engineering, CI/CD, or reliability.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices, build systems, automation, and engineering productivity challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technical problems, identify root causes, and implement solutions that deliver measurable improvements.
- Experience managing teams through ambiguity and defining strategies for new initiatives from inception to execution.
- Comfortable working with system-level metrics and using data to evaluate progress and business impact.
- Strong technical background with the ability to review architecture, understand engineering trade-offs, and contribute to complex technical discussions.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools or modern AI-enabled engineering workflows is highly valued.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, engineering managers, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on developing talent, fostering collaboration, and raising technical standards.
- Experience launching pilot programs, transformation initiatives, or new engineering capabilities is an advantage.
- Fully remote work environment with location flexibility.
- Opportunity to lead a strategic initiative with high visibility and direct impact on engineering productivity.
- Competitive compensation package, including base salary, equity opportunities, and comprehensive benefits.
- Flexible paid time off and programs supporting employee well-being.
- Access to professional growth opportunities and development resources.
- Inclusive workplace culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Employee resource groups and initiatives supporting diversity and belonging.
- Parental leave and benefits designed to support employees and their families.
- Opportunity to work with modern technologies and shape the future of software development practices.
