This is an exciting opportunity for a senior backend engineer passionate about building scalable, cloud-native applications and modern data processing solutions. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize high-performance backend systems using Scala and functional programming principles. Working in a collaborative and agile environment, you will contribute to distributed architectures, cloud services, and robust data pipelines that support critical business operations. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing solutions while continuously improving system observability and scalability. Accountabilities:

As a Senior Backend Scala Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-native backend applications and data platforms. You will contribute to the full software development lifecycle while ensuring high standards of code quality, performance, and reliability.

  • Develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Scala and functional programming best practices.
  • Build and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and processing pipelines.
  • Implement asynchronous and concurrent solutions using technologies such as FS2 and cats-effect.
  • Develop serialization and deserialization logic using Circe.
  • Work with AWS and Google Cloud Platform services, including Amazon S3, AWS STS, BigQuery, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub.
  • Design, optimize, and maintain SQL queries and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Troubleshoot distributed applications and cloud-based environments.
  • Create and execute unit, integration, and component tests to ensure software quality.
  • Improve application observability, reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Git and Agile development methodologies.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong backend engineering expertise with experience in cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and modern Scala development practices.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience developing scalable backend applications using Scala.
  • Strong knowledge of functional programming concepts and Scala development best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with sbt, Circe, FS2, and cats-effect.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform services.
  • Knowledge of IAM, STS, AssumeRole, WebIdentity, AWS SDK, Amazon S3, and AWS STS.
  • Experience working with Google BigQuery, Google Dataflow, and Google Pub/Sub.
  • Strong SQL skills and solid experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting distributed applications and cloud environments.
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and component tests.
  • Familiarity with Git, Agile methodologies, cloud-native architectures, and distributed systems.
  • Experience improving application observability, reliability, and performance.
  • Advanced English communication skills, with the ability to participate in technical conversations and interviews.
