Director, Workday & HRIS

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Workday & HRIS based in Canada.

This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on shaping and optimizing the global HR technology landscape within a complex, multinational environment. You will oversee the strategic direction, governance, and ongoing evolution of Workday and related HR systems, ensuring they effectively support business growth and workforce operations. The role combines technology leadership, process improvement, stakeholder management, and data governance responsibilities. You will partner closely with HR, Payroll, IT, and executive stakeholders to drive innovation, enhance system capabilities, and improve operational efficiency. Leading global HRIS initiatives, you will influence system strategy, governance frameworks, integrations, reporting, and compliance across multiple regions. This position is ideal for a collaborative leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys transforming HR processes through technology. Your expertise will directly contribute to scalable, data-driven people operations and organizational success.

Accountabilities:
  • Own and oversee the global administration, governance, and strategic roadmap of Workday within a shared enterprise environment.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and system owners to align HR technology initiatives with business objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Lead the planning, configuration, enhancement, and optimization of Workday modules, integrations, and business processes.
  • Establish and maintain HRIS governance standards, policies, documentation, and operational procedures across the organization.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Workday functionality, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and user experience.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of HR data through audits, reconciliations, reporting controls, and system monitoring.
  • Partner closely with Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and IT teams to support integrations, troubleshoot issues, and maintain seamless data flows.
  • Manage Workday releases, evaluate new functionality, and drive adoption of enhancements that support organizational goals.
  • Develop and oversee reporting, dashboards, analytics, and workforce insights to support business decision-making.
  • Lead vendor relationships, influence enterprise governance discussions, and drive successful execution of global HR technology initiatives.
  • Deliver end-user training, support resources, and change management activities to maximize system adoption and effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in HR technology leadership, HRIS management, or enterprise HR systems administration.
  • Proven expertise managing global Workday environments within multinational organizations.
  • Experience operating within shared or multi-tenant Workday governance structures and collaborating across business units.
  • Workday Pro certification in one or more HCM modules is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Workday configuration, business process design, EIBs, integrations, testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
  • Solid understanding of HR operations, workforce processes, talent management, compensation, time tracking, and related HR functions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading HR technology transformations and implementing large-scale system enhancements.
  • Expertise in data governance, reporting, analytics, audits, and ensuring cross-system data integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex processes and deliver practical solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead global initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Base salary range of approximately CAD $249,000–$304,000 annually, depending on experience, expertise, and location.
