Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Payments Engineer — Acquiring & Payment Processing based in Brazil.
This is a senior-level backend engineering role focused on building and scaling mission-critical payment acquiring and processing systems that power high-volume financial transactions.
You will work on the core infrastructure that connects to global payment processors and gateways, ensuring seamless authorization, settlement, and reconciliation flows.
The role sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and compliance, requiring strong ownership of secure and auditable money movement systems.
You will contribute to designing resilient distributed architectures that handle complex payment lifecycles at scale.
Working in a fast-paced, AI-enabled engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Risk, Product, and Compliance.
This is a high-impact position where your work directly influences transaction reliability, customer experience, and business performance.
You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems that support payment acquiring and processing workflows. This includes ownership of end-to-end money movement systems and ensuring reliability across all transaction stages.
- Design and implement backend services (primarily in Go) integrating with payment processors, gateways, and acquiring partners.
- Own full payment lifecycle flows including authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, and dispute/chargeback handling.
- Build resilient, idempotent, and fault-tolerant distributed systems using event-driven architectures and queueing mechanisms.
- Ensure PCI DSS-compliant implementations including tokenization, secure data handling, and 3DS/SCA flows where applicable.
- Monitor and optimize payment system performance including latency, approval rates, and reconciliation accuracy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Risk, Compliance, Support) to solve complex payments challenges.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to raising engineering standards across the team while supporting delivery of critical initiatives.
- Leverage AI tools responsibly to accelerate engineering workflows, including design, coding, testing, and documentation.
This role requires strong backend engineering expertise with deep exposure to payments systems and distributed architectures. You should be comfortable working in high-responsibility environments where accuracy and reliability are critical.
- 7+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience, preferably with strong exposure to fintech or payments systems.
- Strong proficiency in Go (preferred) or Python, with experience building scalable REST APIs.
- Hands-on experience with payment processors, gateways, or acquiring systems, with solid understanding of payment fundamentals (authorization, settlement, reconciliation, tokenization, disputes).
- Experience designing distributed systems using event-driven patterns, queues, and cloud-native architectures (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, etc.).
- Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, New Relic) and production system monitoring.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerized microservices, and cloud platforms such as AWS and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and ORM-based development.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools (LLMs such as Claude or equivalents) to improve productivity and engineering output.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication skills, ownership mindset, and ability to operate in fast-paced, high-impact environments.
- Competitive gross monthly salary ranging from $5,000 to $9,500 USD, depending on experience.
- Fully remote work with flexibility and autonomy.
- Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact payment systems used in real financial transactions.
- Exposure to advanced fintech infrastructure and AI-first engineering practices.
- Strong ownership culture with opportunities for technical leadership and mentorship.
- Collaborative, high-performance engineering environment focused on continuous improvement.
- Additional benefits such as healthcare coverage and regionally competitive perks (where applicable).
