MRI Technologist | Hiring Incentive $7,500

Location: Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time | Friday - Sunday (Weekend Pay Eligible)

Compensation: Starting pay ranges between $33.59 - $50.39 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.

Schedule: Full-time position with variable shifts and on-call responsibilities.

What You'll Do as an MRI Technologist
  • Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures according to physician orders and established imaging protocols.
  • Prepare patients for MRI examinations by reviewing safety questionnaires, obtaining patient histories, and providing education regarding procedures.
  • Operate MRI equipment safely and effectively to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Monitor patients during procedures while ensuring comfort, safety, and exceptional patient experiences.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and imaging team members to support diagnostic accuracy and efficient workflow.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, image archival, and retrieval within imaging systems.
  • Respond appropriately to patient needs, changes in condition, and emergency situations within the scope of practice.
  • Support departmental quality initiatives, patient safety goals, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Assist with the orientation, training, and mentorship of students and newly hired technologists as needed.
  • Demonstrate UNC Health Appalachian's Mission, Vision, and Values through professional and compassionate patient care.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited program in Radiologic Technology required.
  • ARRT or CNMT registration required.
Experience
  • Six (6) months of supervised clinical MRI scanning experience required.

OR

  • Associate degree in an allied health field or Bachelor's degree with certification in another clinical field and six (6) months of MRI scanning experience.
  • Ability to successfully complete the internal MRI orientation program.
Licenses/Certifications
  • ARRT (MR) certification required within two (2) years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required at the time of hire.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication and patient interaction skills.
  • Knowledge of MRI imaging protocols, safety standards, and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to deliver safe, effective patient care within legal and organizational standards.
  • Excellent customer service and patient care skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical proficiency.
  • Commitment to teamwork, quality improvement, and operational excellence.
Physical & Work Environment Physical Demands
  • Continuous standing and walking for periods greater than 8 hours per shift.
  • Frequent patient mobilization exceeding 4 hours per day.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of greater than 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.
  • Frequent hand, finger, and wrist repetition requiring moderate dexterity.
  • Frequent close visual work and near acuity requirements.
  • Frequent exposure to soft voices at distances greater than three feet.
Working Conditions
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Exposure to electrical and mechanical equipment hazards.
  • Exposure to unpleasant elements including accidents, injuries, slippery surfaces, and uneven surfaces.
  • Subject to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Variable schedules including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Exposure to vibration and cramped spaces.
  • May be exposed to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation environments, including x-ray and microwave areas.
