Position Summary
The Grid Integration Manager leads utility coordination, grid integration strategy, and energy management initiatives for EVgo's fast-charging infrastructure. This role drives projects through utility design, engineering, and construction phases while ensuring technical feasibility, constructability, regulatory compliance, and timely energization. Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Deployment, Construction, Operations, and external utility partners, the Grid Integration Manager develops solutions that optimize charging performance, reduce capital and operating costs, and support reliable grid integration at scale.
Responsibilities
Grid Integration Strategy
- Develop and execute grid integration strategies for EVgo charging infrastructure, considering grid capacity, demand response programs, distributed energy resources, and renewable energy opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with electric utilities and regulatory agencies to facilitate project approvals and successful grid interconnections.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions that improve charging station performance, reduce energy costs, and enhance grid reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop deployment strategies that optimize project economics and reduce capital expenditures.
Utility Infrastructure Development
- Lead utility infrastructure planning and development activities, including site feasibility assessments, value engineering, and utility equipment requirements.
- Coordinate with construction teams, utilities, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and successful execution of utility-related work.
- Maintain accountability for the quality and completeness of utility deliverables, ensuring robust QA/QC processes throughout development and construction.
Grid Interconnection Management
- Partner closely with utilities to negotiate and execute interconnection agreements, coordinate engineering studies, and satisfy technical requirements.
- Align stakeholders on utility sequencing and project execution to ensure seamless handoff from construction to energization.
- Manage utility schedules and forecasting to support key project milestones, including Utility Release for Construction and Energization.
- Provide technical leadership during interconnection negotiations, commissioning activities, and system testing.
Technical Analysis & Energy Management
- Lead technical analyses, simulations, and modeling to evaluate grid integration scenarios and support early-stage site acquisition decisions.
- Assess the impact of EV charging on electric distribution systems and develop mitigation strategies where necessary.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and energy management solutions that improve operational efficiency and long-term scalability.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain current knowledge of industry regulations, utility standards, and applicable electrical codes.
- Ensure all projects comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Development & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Share knowledge of utility processes, grid integration best practices, and regulatory requirements to build team capability.
- Foster collaborative relationships that support continuous process improvement and successful project delivery.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
Desired Skills
- Experience in the electric vehicle, energy, consulting, or utility sectors.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Familiarity with Utility design, demand response programs, distributed energy resources, or battery energy storage systems.
- Minimum 4+ years of related Utility experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Equivalent technical education or training in a related field (e.g., certification program, coursework in electrical engineering or power systems, or demonstrated on-the-job learning) accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, utility operations, project management principles, and energy management technologies.
- Demonstrated experience with utility interconnection processes, utility requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce, Sitetracker, or comparable enterprise CRM/project management platforms.
- Proficiency with engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Google Earth.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Up to 20% travel may be required for utility meetings, site visits, and cross-functional engagement.

- Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer discretionary target cash bonuses, restricted stock units (subject to Board Approval), and a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, unbounded paid time off including parental leave, and a 401(k).

The pay range for this role is:
122,100 - 152,600 USD per year(US)
