DUTIES

RESPONSIBILITIES

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach one section of EDTE3120: Adolescent Learning and Development in Summer of 2026.

August 10, 2026 to August 18, 2026 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 1:30 p.m. to 6:20 p.m.

Calendar Description

This course is intended to provide an understanding of adolescent learning and development. Modern theories in developmental, educational, and cognitive psychology, as well as social and physical development, are explored. Emphasis is on the theories that are relevant to adolescents in the school environment in order to help educators plan and implement lessons, activities, lectures, assignments, and teaching strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor of Education is required

• A Master of Education is required

• Recent experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years full time classroom experience is required

• Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required

• Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required

• Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required

• Proven skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect are required

• Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required

• Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required

• Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10), is required

$2,575.50 - $2,575.50 ( Sessional Faculty - Academic (per credit) )
