Job Description

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is seeking a College Counselor! The College Counselor plays a vital, mission-driven role in advancing college awareness and access for Cristo Rey Jesuit High School students, while also building meaningful partnerships with local and national 2- and 4-year colleges and universities. This role is ideal for an educator or counselor who is passionate about walking alongside students over time—guiding, encouraging, and celebrating their journey to and through higher education.

As a College Counselor at our school, you will do more than support applications—you will help students envision their futures, build confidence, and realize their potential. You will be part of a collaborative, purpose-driven community dedicated to long-term student success.

Our student body is 98% Latino/Latina/Latine or Black. We know that representation matters—student success begins with seeing themselves reflected in the workforce. We strongly encourage candidates who identify as Latino/Latina/Latine and/or Black to apply. To best serve our students and families, bilingual fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) is highly preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Guide and support students through every stage of the college and financial aid process, in collaboration with the Director of College Counseling
  • Design and lead engaging college-readiness programming, including presentations, workshops, college fairs, campus visits, and family seminars
  • Build strong, sustained relationships with students through individual and group advising on college exploration and selection
  • Use data thoughtfully to inform advising and support students and families in making college and financial aid decisions
  • Track and analyze college and scholarship applications and outcomes using Naviance and related tools
  • Cultivate meaningful partnerships with colleges and universities to expand opportunities for students
  • Build trusting relationships with families through proactive communication (in person, phone, and digital outreach)
  • Teach college exploration classes that inspire curiosity and long-term planning
  • Proctor SAT exams and support testing logistics
  • Assist in managing the department budget and contribute to ongoing program development
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to shared departmental and school responsibilities
Qualifications and RequirementsRequired
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in college counseling, college access, higher education, or a related field
  • Demonstrated success working with students from diverse backgrounds in an urban setting
  • Strong relational skills, collaboration mindset, and adaptability in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and travel overnight as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Commitment to participating in Ignatian Identity programming, including retreats and intercultural development
Preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish (highly preferred)
  • Experience with PowerSchool, Microsoft 365, and college access tools (e.g., Naviance, Scoir)
  • Strong public speaking skills and experience facilitating workshops
Professional Growth & Mission Integration

We are committed to investing in our educators for the long term. During your first five years, you will participate in an Ignatian Identity cohort, meeting regularly with the Director of Jesuit Mission and Identity to deepen your understanding of Jesuit values and educational philosophy.

You will also attend the Ignatian Retreat for New Employees (summer after your first year, fully funded), where you will engage in meaningful reflection, explore Ignatian principles, and connect your work to a broader sense of purpose and vocation.
