Job Description
We are a family-owned and operated steel fabrication and manufacturing company with approximately 285 employees across three manufacturing locations. We are seeking an experienced Controller to serve as the senior financial leader of the organization and partner directly with ownership and executive leadership.
Primary Responsibilities• Lead all accounting operations, including the monthly close process, financial reporting, and maintenance of accurate financial records.
• Stabilize the accounting department by establishing consistent processes, improving organization, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Personally assist with accounting activities as needed to ensure deadlines are met and the department operates efficiently.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team while building a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and professional development.
• Develop and document standardized accounting procedures, internal controls, and best practices.
• Oversee inventory accounting, standard costing, job costing, work-in-process (WIP), and manufacturing cost accounting.
• Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and executive financial reporting.
• Evaluate and improve accounting workflows by reducing paper-based processes and identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.
• Lead the accounting department's preparation for a future ERP implementation, including process documentation, data cleanup, and partnering with ownership during system selection and implementation.
• Coordinate annual tax filings, external audits, and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with operations to improve inventory accuracy, costing, profitability, and overall financial performance.
• Support ownership with banking relationships, lender reporting, corporate insurance renewals, employee benefits, and annual 401(k) plan reviews.
Required Qualifications• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA preferred.
• Quickbooks
• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• 5+ years in manufacturing accounting leadership.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, inventory, standard costing, job costing, and WIP.
• ERP implementation experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
