What You’ll Do 

As a Nurse Educator, you'll report to the Director/Manager and lead the assessment, planning, coordination, and evaluation of competency-based orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs for nursing staff. You'll identify educational and practice gaps, develop evidence-based learning strategies, and deliver engaging education to support quality, safety, and professional development. You'll serve as an educational resource for associates, leaders, physicians, committees, and other partners while monitoring learner progress and recommending improvements to nursing practice and standards. You'll also contribute to policies, procedures, quality initiatives, and special projects that advance patient care and organizational goals.

Nurse Educator Job Responsibilities 

  • Assess educational needs and identify practice gaps to develop and enhance staff education programs.

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate orientation, continuing education, and competency-based training programs.

  • Create and maintain lesson plans, presentations, instructional materials, assessments, and courses in alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational needs.

  • Facilitate group and individual education for associates with varying levels of experience and educational backgrounds.

  • Monitor orientee progress and competency, provide constructive feedback and coaching, and communicate recommendations to department leadership.

  • Serve as an educational resource to nursing staff, departments, committees, physicians, and other internal and external partners.

  • Apply evidence-based practice, research, and professional nursing development standards to educational programs and initiatives.

  • Evaluate educational outcomes and recommend improvements to nursing practice, quality, safety, and patient care.

  • Assist with the development and revision of policies, procedures, competencies, and other educational resources.

  • Maintain program documentation, including schedules, attendance records, evaluations, reports, and other administrative materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required

  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license required

  • Two years of previous nursing experience required

  • CPR Instructor certification required; may be obtained after hire

  • Must obtain Nurse Planner designation through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) within one year of starting the position
