We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the Logistics Specialist position, joining our North East, MD team on-site!
  • SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday approximately 40+ hours a week

Job Summary:
This role has the primary responsibility of executing efficient and cost-effective freight distribution while proactively sourcing creative solutions and analysis of distribution operations.


Key Responsibilities:
System Management & User Support
  • Executes day-to-day operation of Transportation Management System (TMS) such as but not limited to, creating profiles and uploading rates to ensure current information impacting costs and efficient operations.
  • Answers inquiries from external and internal customers on matters related to Systems Support, Logistics and process improvement in order to ensure exemplary customer service and improved operations. Provides power user level systems support and facilitates training on the system for all carriers and all company employees.
  • Performs periodic audits of system generated loads to ensure most system heuristics are set up correctly.
Reporting & Analysis
  • Compiles data on Carriers performance, delivery timelines and invoicing to assess performance in order to ensure most efficient and cost effective utilization and operations.
  • Creates all freight distribution expense charts in order to communicate to senior management on performance of monthly transportation spend; appropriately diagnoses any variance and recommends course of action.
  • Assists, as the internal subject data expert, in Carrier sourcing and bid analysis in order to make recommendations for future business opportunities.
Process Improvement
  • Investigates detention rates assigned from carriers and reconciles discrepancies through communication with carriers and Herrs transportation department.
  • Supports improvement initiatives by collecting data regarding inventory and out of stock; evaluates information and recommends opportunities for improvement in order to ensure enhanced productivity of department.
Customer Service/Communication
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively while striving for the highest possible outcomes for customers and our organization.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Works proactively to identify problems and craft creative solutions.
Administration
  • Reviews all inquiries regarding discrepancies of carrier invoices in order to confirm charges are valid.

Reliable attendance and punctuality are also required. The employee is also expected to perform other related duties, special projects and functions as required from time to time.
