Job Description

Position Title: Kitchen Aide/Dishwasher

Reports to: Head Chef, Food Service Manager and Director

Position Type: Full-Time, Onsite

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:00pm (overtime availability, schedule flexibility to work Saturdays as needed)
Location: 351 East 74th Street (between 1st and 2nd Aves.)

Position Overview:

The Kitchen Aide is responsible supporting the Head Chef in preparing ingredients, cooking basic dishes, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and adhering to food safety standards. The Kitchen Aide operates kitchen equipment, assists with inventory and ensures smooth and respectful food service to the senior population

This position requires good health/hygiene, a demonstrated ability to read, write, and converse in English. Individuals must have respect for the senior population, have the ability to work as part of a team, and be a team player.

Essential Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Maintains, cleans, sanitizes all items used in the preparation and serving of food, including hot meals and salads.
  • Washing and storing of pots, pans, and dishes used in food preparation and meal service. Will let chef know when and what supplies are needed.
  • Assists in prep for congregate lunch (hot meals/salads) Responsible for maintenance/cleanliness of dishwashing room
  • Stock all deliveries upon arrival to the center. Keep basement storage organized. Responsible for receiving all inventory orders and putting the inventory away.
  • Cleaning of coffee station as needed, including microwave, counter tops, and coffee machines. Filling coffee machine and hot water boiler when necessary, refilling hot beverage cups, sugar, and stirrers.
  • Assisting in other food prep and program related tasks as required. Ex: water pitcher filling/distributing, distributing cold packs/serving food.
  • Sets up dining tables in the AM Attends staff meetings and trainings
  • Assists custodians with dining room clean up/garbage removal. Must maintain proper packaging of home delivered meals.
  • Safe handling of food as per DOH and DFTA guidelines NYS Food Handlers license preferred
  • Responsible for daily cleaning and sanitizing of all kitchen equipment
  • Washing of pots, pans and dishes used in food preparation as needed.
  • Maintain DOH and DFTA sanitation guidelines and agency standards for same Proper portioning and serving of food as per menu
  • Responsible for being consistent and reliable with your required schedule
  • Assist in any tasks deemed necessary by the Food Service Manager, Chef, and/or Older Adult Center (OAC) Director Reports to Chef, Food Service Manager, and OAC Director

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Good health and hygiene
  • NYS Food Handler’s License or ability to get license within 6 months of being hired
  • Must be able to read, write, and converse fluently in English.
  • Passion for CBN’s mission and commitment to serving senior population.


Monday - Friday 7am - 3pm
Flexibility to work Saturdays when needed
Overtime eligible
