Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for providing security and safety support for residents, team members, visitors, and facility property. This role conducts routine security patrols, monitors facility access and security systems, and serves as a point of contact through switchboard operations, with particular emphasis on after-hours coverage. The Security Officer responds to emergency situations involving resident, team member, or facility safety, assists with evacuations as trained, and completes assigned non-technical facility support tasks in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
- Conduct routine security rounds of the facility and grounds to ensure the safety of residents, staff, visitors, and property.
- Monitor and enforce facility security policies and procedures, reporting safety or security concerns promptly.
- Respond to emergencies involving resident, employee, or facility safety, including assisting with evacuations as trained.
- Operate the facility switchboard after hours, answering incoming calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Monitor security systems, alarms, and surveillance equipment and respond appropriately to alerts.
- Assist with non-technical work orders and facility support tasks as directed and within training scope.
- Operate security vehicles as required to perform patrol and response duties.
- Work cooperatively with residents, families, team members, and external emergency responders, including police and fire departments.
- Maintain accurate awareness of facility conditions and report incidents, hazards, or unusual activity per policy.
- This position is designated as essential to the operations of the organization. Team members in this role may be required to report into work (on-site at the community) during emergencies, inclement weather, or other situations when the organization remains operational.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct, completing required training and reporting concerns promptly.
Physical Demands
- Always required to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for security patrols and switchboard monitoring.
- Always required to use hands and arms for manual tasks such as operating security equipment, handling keys, and logging reports.
- Frequently required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds; occasionally required to lift or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently required to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, reach at, above, and below shoulder level, and climb stairs or ladders as needed.
- Occasionally required to walk on uneven ground and perform tasks that require fine motor skills or manual dexterity.
- Must be able to concentrate on tasks of minimal to moderate detail with intermittent interruptions and remember verbal and written instructions for an entire shift.
- Requires visual acuity to monitor video surveillance, identify potential hazards, read gauges, alarms, or labels, and assess resident or team members safety.
- Requires auditory acuity to hear alarms, phones, radios, and other communications.

Work Environment
- Always works both indoors and outdoors, depending on shift and security needs.
- Frequently works indoors in climate-controlled environments; frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Frequently works evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather as required for facility operations.
- Occasionally exposed to dust, chemicals, loud or unpleasant noises, mechanical hazards, and emotionally stressful situations.
- Must follow all safety, security, infection control, and emergency procedures at all times.
Schedule
- 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am, VARIABLE SCHEDULE
- 1st shift, 2nd, and/or 3rd shift
- PRN or relief status
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Some experience in security preferred.
- Must be able to use the English language to satisfy the communications and record keeping requirements involved in the performance of this job position, with or without accommodation.
- Must maintain neat, well-groomed appearance, adhering to dress code of the facility.
- Wears Uniform at all times.
- Must be able to safely perform all essential job functions without harm to self or others, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must satisfy all established licensing and certification requirements applicable to this job position.
- Must comply with facility's drug testing and substance abuse policies and programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic security procedures, emergency response protocols, and facility safety practices.
- Ability to observe, assess, and respond calmly and effectively to emergency or high-stress situations.
- Skill in operating security systems, surveillance equipment, and two-way communication devices.
- Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with residents, families, staff, and emergency personnel.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and comply with security policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated reliability, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold resident rights at all times.
