We are seeking a Mechanical Lab Technician to support residential lighting fixture and ceiling fan product testing. This role is responsible for setting up and operating test equipment, preparing test samples, accurately collecting and documenting test data, and preparing reports to support compliance, engineering validation, and laboratory quality activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating test equipment for electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical, and air movement measurement.
  • Building or modifying test setups from drawings, schematics, or engineering instructions.
  • Accurately record, verify, and document test data, and produce clear test reports for engineers and certification bodies.
  • Responsible for basic equipment maintenance/calibration.
  • Physical/mechanical assembly work (product assembly, mounting, wiring, dimensional verification) alongside pure test/measurement duties.
  • Supporting accreditation documentation and lab quality systems (ISO 17025 program process).
  • Maintains communication with certification bodies as instructed.
  • Assisting in quality checks on current products.
  • Assisting in Smart Home functionality checks for Hinkley App and Smart Home Eco Systems (Alexa, Google, Apple, etc.).
  • Perform assigned testing activities efficiently while maintaining accuracy, quality standards, and adherence to established lab procedures.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by manager.
Requirements:

Education & Work Experience Required

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent combinations of technical education, vocational training, and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical testing, laboratory, manufacturing, engineering support, or related technical environment required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD preferred.
  • Basic mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; technical writing experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and a high level of professionalism.
  • Reliable and dependable with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality.
