This fully remote role is responsible for the governance, integrity, and configuration control of critical electronic component libraries supporting advanced space-based hardware.
You will own and maintain Altium component libraries and Enterprise Server infrastructure used in high-reliability production programs.
The position combines detailed library administration with engineering standards, component qualification, lifecycle management, and manufacturing requirements.
You will help ensure PCB components meet stringent space-grade reliability, traceability, and derating requirements.
Working closely with engineering and manufacturing stakeholders, you will establish robust workflows and resolve component-level issues that could affect production.
The role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to sophisticated VPX-based space electronics supporting defense, intelligence, and civil space missions.
Success requires deep Altium expertise, meticulous attention to configuration control, and strong knowledge of applicable electronics and qualification standards.
- Altium Enterprise Server administration: Own and administer the Altium Enterprise Server environment, including user access, role-based security, revision control, configuration management, and data integrity.
- Component library governance: Maintain and govern electronic component libraries, ensuring accurate, consistent, traceable, and properly controlled CAD data throughout the product lifecycle.
- Space-grade footprint development: Create and verify IPC-compliant PCB footprints designed for high-reliability space applications and aligned with applicable IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-6012 space requirements.
- EEE component classification: Manage parameter sets and database classifications for EEE-INST-002 Level 3 component selections, ensuring accurate screening information and tracking labels.
- Automotive and COTS component management: Track and classify commercial and automotive-grade components, maintaining relevant parametric metadata and supporting up-screening activities for components meeting standards such as AEC-Q101 and AEC-Q200.
- PEM governance: Define and maintain structural parameters, qualification information, and risk profiles for Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuits used in spaceflight designs.
- Derating compliance: Embed and automate component-level derating criteria within Altium parameter schemas to support engineering requirements governing electrical stress.
- Lifecycle and obsolescence management: Monitor component lifecycles throughout extended production cycles, identify potential obsolescence risks, and proactively support qualification of approved alternatives.
- Part request workflow: Manage the Altium Part Request process, ensuring engineering requests are thoroughly reviewed for quality, parametric accuracy, documentation, and relevant spaceflight heritage before release.
- Manufacturing integration: Support contract manufacturers with component data requirements and help resolve component-level solderability, manufacturing, and production defects.
- Cross-functional support: Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and other technical stakeholders to maintain reliable component data and support continuous improvement of development processes.
- Additional support: Provide travel or off-site support when required and perform other responsibilities aligned with the needs of the engineering organization.
- Professional experience: At least 8 years of relevant experience, or 4+ years combined with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Library management: Demonstrated experience managing electronic component libraries, library governance, CAD data systems, and configuration-controlled engineering information.
- Altium expertise: Deep proficiency with Altium Designer and hands-on experience administering Altium Enterprise Server.
- Industry standards: Working knowledge of IPC J-STD-001 Space, IPC-6012 Space, EEE-INST-002, AEC-Q100, AEC-Q101, AEC-Q200, and PEM screening and qualification methodologies.
- Hardware expertise: Experience supporting high-density, high-reliability hardware such as VPX boards or comparable advanced electronic assemblies.
- Manufacturing knowledge: Proven experience working with contract manufacturers and addressing component-level solderability, manufacturing, or production defects.
- Configuration control: Strong understanding of traceability, revision management, component qualification, lifecycle governance, and engineering change processes.
- Quality mindset: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain highly accurate component data in environments where reliability and configuration control are critical.
- Technical judgment: Ability to interpret engineering and manufacturing requirements and translate them into effective library rules, workflows, and component controls.
- Collaboration: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel or work off-site when required.
- Salary: Full-time salary range of $63,000–$149,000 annually, with actual compensation based on experience, skills, education, certifications, internal equity, business considerations, and geographic location.
