Position Summary:
The Departmentof Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM)Health Sciences Center is expanding and seeks an outstanding oculoplastic/oculofacialand orbital surgeon to join our rapidly growing academic department.
The successfulcandidate will join a collaborative and dynamic ophthalmology service dedicatedto providing exceptional oculoplastic, orbital, lacrimal, and reconstructiveeye care to the patients of New Mexico and the surrounding region. As part ofthe UNM Health System, the Eye Clinics offer a rewarding blend of tertiaryreferral care and safety-net medicine, providing exposure to a broad spectrumof complex ophthalmic disease while serving one of the most medically diversepopulations in the Southwest.
The incomingphysician will have the opportunity to join and grow an existing comprehensiveoculoplastic surgery practice, including functional and cosmetic eyelidsurgery, orbital disease, lacrimal disorders, periocular and orbital trauma,and ophthalmic oncology in collaboration with multidisciplinary partners.Opportunities also exist to expand aesthetic oculoplastic services based on thecandidate's interests and expertise. The successful candidate will work closelywith colleagues in ophthalmology, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, dermatology,facial and general plastic surgery, oncology, trauma, and other specialtieswhile sharing general ophthalmology call responsibilities with existing facultyand actively participating in the education of residents from multiplespecialties as well as medical students.
Our departmenthas recently established a three-resident-per-class ophthalmology residencyprogram and continues to experience significant growth. The successfulcandidate will have a unique opportunity to help build and shape the departmentwhile addressing a significant regional need for specialized oculoplastic andorbital care throughout New Mexico and the surrounding states.
Candidates areexpected to demonstrate a strong commitment to outstanding patient care,teaching, and scholarly activity within an academic environment. Opportunitiesfor clinical research, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary collaboration areavailable through our growing research enterprise, which includes dedicatedresearch coordinators, technicians, and faculty collaborators.

- Completion ofan Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship (or equivalentfellowship with completion prior to appointment)
- Board Certifiedor Board Eligible in Ophthalmology
- Eligible formedical licensure in the State of New Mexico
- Eligible towork in the United States
PreferredQualifications for position:
- Experience inclinical education and resident teaching
- Experience inclinical research
- Experience inthe medical and surgical management of eyelid, orbital, lacrimal, andperiocular disorders
- Interest inmultidisciplinary collaboration with surgical and medical specialties
