Job Description

Senior SEO Manager & Account Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior SEO Manager & Account Manager based in South Africa.

This is a fully remote, full-time opportunity for an experienced SEO professional who combines strong technical and content expertise with confident client management skills. You will own SEO campaigns from strategy through execution, helping businesses improve organic visibility and generate commercially valuable traffic. The role spans keyword research, content strategy, on-page and technical SEO, link building, website optimisation, and performance analysis. You will also act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, building trusted relationships and communicating campaign progress. The position offers significant ownership, collaboration with experienced SEO professionals, and exposure to a broad range of industries and digital challenges. It is well suited to someone who enjoys both hands-on SEO delivery and strategic account management.

Accountabilities
  • Manage a portfolio of SEO client accounts, understanding their objectives, setting realistic expectations, and ensuring campaigns deliver meaningful results.
  • Develop and execute end-to-end SEO strategies, from identifying keyword opportunities through content planning, page creation, optimisation, and internal linking.
  • Conduct comprehensive keyword research to identify opportunities for new landing pages, articles, and other content designed to attract relevant and commercially valuable traffic.
  • Analyse client websites and competitor sites to identify on-page opportunities, content gaps, search-intent requirements, and elements that may be limiting organic performance.
  • Create and optimise high-quality, search-engine-focused content aligned with user intent, business objectives, and modern SEO best practices.
  • Implement off-page SEO activities, including outreach to relevant third-party websites and supporting the acquisition of quality backlinks.
  • Monitor SEO performance using analytics and specialist SEO platforms, interpret results, and adjust strategies to improve campaign outcomes.
  • Provide regular reporting and participate in client meetings, clearly explaining performance, priorities, recommendations, and next steps.
  • Educate clients on SEO best practices, emerging search trends, content quality, user experience, and the commercial value of organic search.
  • Apply modern SEO principles, including E-E-A-T, to websites operating in YMYL and other areas where trust, expertise, and content quality are particularly important.
  • Consider technical SEO factors such as site performance, crawlability, indexation, and Google's Core Web Vitals when developing optimisation strategies.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional SEO experience, with strong expertise across on-page SEO, content SEO, technical SEO, and off-page SEO.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience specifically focused on SEO, including on-page and content optimisation, alongside previous experience in marketing agency or account management environments.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute complete SEO strategies that combine keyword research, content optimisation, technical improvements, internal linking, and link building.
  • Strong understanding of search engine algorithms, ranking principles, search intent, commercial-intent SEO, and current SEO best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities that generate qualified, commercially relevant organic traffic rather than focusing solely on traffic volume.
  • Strong understanding of E-E-A-T and the ability to apply appropriate on-page recommendations to YMYL websites and other highly scrutinised niches.
  • Solid technical SEO knowledge, including website performance, Core Web Vitals, and the ability to identify technical factors affecting organic visibility.
  • Experience with industry-standard SEO and analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, Screaming Frog, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong content-writing and optimisation skills, with the ability to create or improve content based on target keywords and search intent.
  • Excellent client-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain complex SEO concepts clearly and build productive long-term relationships.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, problem-solving, and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities simultaneously.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred but not essential.
  • Before interview selection, candidates will be required to complete a practical SEO assessment involving a single-page optimisation strategy. The assessment will require analysis of why a target page may not be ranking for its target keyword and a detailed plan covering on-page SEO, content improvements, E-E-A-T, off-page SEO, and technical SEO recommendations.
Benefits
  • Fully remote working environment.
  • Full-time permanent employment opportunity.
  • Competitive salary of approximately £35,000–£60,000, depending on experience and suitability.
  • Opportunity to work with a pioneering digital marketing team focused on performance-driven campaigns and digital innovation.
  • Strong professional development opportunities, including the chance to work closely with senior SEO leadership and stay current with evolving SEO practices.
  • Creative and dynamic working environment where new ideas, collaboration, and innovation are encouraged.
  • Culture of recognition where strong performance and contributions are valued and celebrated.
  • Exposure to diverse SEO challenges, client accounts, industries, and digital marketing strategies.
