Description
The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office is currently seeking an experienced, practicing attorney for its Major Financial Frauds Bureau.
The District Attorney's Major Financial Frauds Bureau conducts long-term investigations and prosecutes complex financial schemes. The specially trained assistant district attorneys, investigative auditors and investigators focus their efforts on cases such as the financial exploitation of our senior citizens; identity theft; advance fee frauds; investment scams such as Ponzi schemes; real estate and deed fraud; attorney misappropriation of escrow funds; embezzlement from both large corporations and small businesses; bank, check and credit card fraud rings; New York State tax fraud, and crimes against Nassau County's workforce, such as worker's compensation fraud, wage theft, and construction fraud. The MFFB also prosecutes illegal dumping, storage and transportation of hazardous materials and other environmental crimes.
Qualifications and Requirements
All lateral candidates for the Major Financial Frauds Bureau must:
- Have passed the NYS Bar Examination and be admitted to the practice of law in NYS, in good standing, prior to submitting an application;
- Reside in New York State as of the effective date of employment with the NCDAO;
- Have at least five (5) years of experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution, including significant long-term investigations experience, as well as grand jury and felony jury trial experience (drafting eavesdropping and search warrants preferred);
- Have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
- Have strong organizational and analytical abilities; and
- Make a two-year commitment to employment at the NCDAO.
Duties and Responsibilities
Day to day life for an ADA in the Major Financial Frauds Bureau requires organized management of an active criminal case docket, which includes:
- Conducting all phases of criminal prosecution, from investigation through trial;
- Preparing and filing accusatory instruments, handling discovery, writing and responding to motions;
- Interviewing victims, witnesses (including financial professionals and subject matter experts), and law enforcement personnel;
- Conducting grand jury presentations, hearings and trials;
- Evaluating cases to formulate and negotiate appropriate dispositions;
- Conferencing cases with defense counsel and judges;
- Investigating cases using various types of legal process (e.g., subpoenas and court orders);
- Reviewing financial records, banking documents, tax returns, digital evidence and other complex documentary evidence; and
- Collaborating with forensic accountants, NCDA’s investigators, the NCPD and Nassau County’s local police departments, as well as a variety of local, state and federal law enforcement partners.

The pay range for this role is:
