Description:

The Assistant Coordinator of Faith Formation will be accountable to the Coordinator and shall be responsible for the faith formation for children in grades 1-12, including sacramental preparation, to be carried out according to the catechetical norms of the Diocese of Phoenix and the religious education program description of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. St. Charles Borromeo religious education program is a family catechesis program involving the registered children of the parish and their parents.

Essential Job Functions - Help with:

  • Plans and directs parish faith formation/religious education programs.
  • Invites, motivates, and forms volunteers to serve as responsible catechists.
  • Directs the selection process, purchases texts and materials, and instructs catechists in their use.
  • Initiates and maintains accurate records on students, families, catechists.
  • Collaborates with parish staff and other ministers.
  • Maintains professional updating through research, classes, workshops, reading, and contact with peers.
  • Promotes good public relations both within and beyond the parish and is involved in diocesan events.
  • Collaborate with the youth and young adult minister to help assimilate children into the middle school and high school youth programs.
  • Maintain policies and record compliance with the Diocese of Phoenix Protecting God’s Children program, also known as Safe Environment Training (SET).
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Understand the partnership of family, parish community and catechists as essential agents in the catechetical process.
  • Build community and work as part of a team.
  • Design appropriate catechetical programs and curriculum for adolescents and children.
  • Develop and extend programs to include groups and/or individuals with physical or developmental disabilities.
  • Assemble literary and audio-visual resources and use media and technology for effective program implementation.
  • Include awareness of ethnic and cultural sensitivity in all catechetical efforts.
  • Provide and facilitate initial and continuing catechist formation opportunities.
  • Facilitate effective group interaction and team work.
  • Inform, support, and resource parents or primary care givers in the religious formation of their children.
  • Promote and implement parish and diocesan policies and guidelines regarding religious education and respond to requests for reports, surveys and program evaluations.
  • Be able to understand, accept, and implement the vision statement of the parish pastoral team.
  • Required fluency in both English and Spanish, written and verbal.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of Catholic Church teaching and structures.
  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
