Job Description
Pharmacy Technician needed for a medically Integrated Dispensing Pharmacy within our Rheumatology outpatient medical office.
Must have excellent computer and customer service skills. Hours are Monday through Thursday 7:45 am - 5:15 pm and Fridays 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. No nights or weekends! Daily duties typically include:
- Prescription Processing: Gathering patient information, preparing and labeling complex medications, and maintaining inventory.
- Insurance & Financial Navigation: Verifying medical vs. pharmacy benefits, handling prior authorizations, and finding manufacturer copay assistance programs to reduce patient costs.
- Care Coordination: Communicating directly with the prescribing provider's team to ensure continuity of care
- Patient Support: Counseling on the pickup/delivery process and assisting with refill management.
- Collect, verify, and accurately enter insurance, demographic, and eligibility information into applicable systems.
- Complete insurance verification for third-party payers and obtain initial and ongoing authorizations, referrals, and benefit re-verifications as needed.
- Provide financial counseling to patients prior to treatment, including explanation of financial responsibility, billing practices, and payment arrangements.
- Review and process account adjustments and refund requests and support resolution of complex account balances.
- Assist patients with access to financial assistance programs, replacement drug programs, transportation resources, and other community support services.
- Maintain required logs, documentation, and departmental records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Prepare medication orders under the supervision of a physician and verify completeness of order information, patient details, and prescriber authorization.
- Support medication preparation in accordance with departmental procedures and applicable safety standards.
- Calculate dosage volumes accurately and maintain records for assistance programs, protocol medications, and inventory controls.
- Monitor medication storage requirements, including temperature logs, expiration tracking, and proper disposal of materials.
- Maintain documentation for lot numbers, quality assurance activities, inventory control, medication ordering, receiving, and stocking.
- Prepare labels, support billing documentation, and use department systems for data entry and reporting.
- Contribute to daily business office operations, reporting, file maintenance, and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- State Registration: Valid registration or licensure with state's Board of Pharmacy. State Certified Tier
- National Certification: A Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- Experience: Prior experience in a pharmacy setting ipreferred, with specialty or clinical backgrounds being a huge asset.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this role successfully. This position typically requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment, prolonged periods of sitting, and occasional stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting of materials up to 40 pounds. Clear vision and hearing sufficient for computer and telephone work are required.
