Manager, Extra Gift Appeals

Ducks Unlimited National Headquarters has an opening for a full-time, Manager, Extra Gift Appeals. Responsible for the strategic and tactical execution of day-to-day activities associated with the revenue generation, execution, performance, expense management, and trend analysis of Direct Marketing’s cultivation program. Uses understanding of data analytics, direct marketing techniques, industry trends and best practices to ensure optimal revenue and supporter objectives are met. Works closely with Director of Annual Giving to ensure all strategies and tactics are aligned with Direct Marketing’s fundraising objectives.
The position will report to the Director of Annual Giving.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and execution of integrated, omni-channel direct marketing plans for Direct Marketing’s cultivation program. Ensures short and long-term revenue objectives are met by developing, recommending, and implementing strategies to drive maximum revenue generation and growth. Assists Director of Annual Giving with strategic planning.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on creative, content, and segmentation ensuring messaging and creativity aligns with overall strategy. Ensures compliance with industry guidelines and standards.
- Assists Director with the preparation of annual program budgets and on-going financial review by performing detailed analysis of recent and past results. Includes ongoing assessment of revenue and expense results, updating budget versus actuals to track campaign performance and inform leadership of recent results and future projections.
- Confirms actual expenses meet program budgets and determines the cost efficiency of direct marketing campaigns. Researches, recommends, and implements cost-saving strategies to maximize return on investment (ROI).
- Responsible for inputting and maintaining campaign data in Blackbaud CRM such as creating marketing, uploading segmentation files, campaign costs, etc.
- Approves print counts and pricing to ensure expenses are in line with budget to production sign-off.
- Researches, recommends, and collaborates with peers on the execution of new innovative strategic initiatives as directed by leadership.
- Ensures defined strategies are consistently applied during campaign execution to create cohesive marketing plans, ensuring optimal supporter experience and revenue generation.
- Collaborate with Director on setting the strategy for each direct marketing campaign, preparing creative/copy, tracks campaign expenses and revenues campaigns.
- Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness and results of new and existing strategies. Based on historical analysis, recent results, future projections, recommends and implements informed strategies resulting in more targeted marketing efforts, increased fundraising, and supporter engagement.
- Provides strategic direction to DU internal/external partners for development and implementation of strategies and plans. Collaborates with cross-functional teams on offline and online direct marketing campaigns.
- Recommends strategic adjustment as necessary including changes in spending based on program performance and external factors.
- Ensures optimal donor experience is achieved through data trend analysis and applies learned to special micro-segments of donors, prospects, and other constituents for Direct Marketing.
- Identifies opportunities for budgeted new initiatives as well as incremental improvements based on marketplace trends and research.
- Collaborate with leadership on identifying audience selections for omni-channel campaigns and on-going data analysis.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external partners.
- Researches and monitors competitive information, industry trends, and other environmental factors to identify impact to current programs.
- Other duties as needed assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4-5 years in direct marketing with demonstrated ability to drive revenue and donor retention. Understanding of direct marketing best practices and industry trends.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization and work successfully with them.
- High proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite required. Experience with Blackbaud CRM a plus.
- Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills required. An ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast-faced, multi-tasking environment are essential.
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship and team-building skills. Ability to provide leadership and guidance to other fundraising professionals and volunteers. Self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team and is driven to succeed.
