This role provides senior-level accounting support for a healthcare organization’s health plan operations, with a strong focus on accurate and timely financial reporting. You will contribute to month-end close activities, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, statutory reporting, and audit readiness. The position requires strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to work confidently with both GAAP and statutory accounting requirements. You will collaborate with accountants and cross-functional partners to resolve discrepancies, validate financial information, and maintain reliable reporting processes. Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities will be important for managing complex schedules, reconciliations, and financial data. - Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting requirements.
- Prepare income statements, balance sheets, consolidated financial statements, and other accounting reports.
- Analyze monthly financial results and accounting records to identify trends, discrepancies, and potential errors.
- Maintain accurate transactions within financial systems and reconcile balance sheet accounts to identify and resolve posting or coding issues.
- Reconcile bank account balances to bank statements and ensure the accuracy and integrity of cash balances.
- Prepare quarterly and annual statutory financial statements accurately and within established deadlines.
- Support accounting control processes by ensuring transactions are properly recorded and documentation is maintained.
- Support annual and other audit activities by preparing schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation requested by auditors.
- Track direct costs and cost of goods sold, prepare related accruals, and validate supporting documentation for accurate expense recognition.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve outstanding reconciling items within required timelines.
- Calculate, record, and monitor cost allocations and amortization schedules in accordance with accounting policies and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and analyze administrative expense accruals to support complete and accurate period-end reporting.
- Partner with teams across the organization to gather supporting information, validate assumptions, resolve discrepancies, and improve financial reporting accuracy.
- Collaborate with other accountants to coordinate accounting activities, share information, and maintain consistent reporting practices.
- Maintain organized workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation while managing multiple priorities and recurring close deadlines.
- At least 3 years of accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, and journal entry processes.
- Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting in a multi-entity environment is preferred.
- Healthcare, insurance, managed care, or health plan accounting experience is preferred.
- Experience working with Oracle, Workday, SAP, or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is an advantage.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and other spreadsheet-based analysis techniques.
- Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze financial information, investigate discrepancies, and develop practical solutions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while consistently meeting reporting and close deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate successfully across teams.
