Job Description
Cheshire Academy seeks a Lead Security and Transportation Coordinator. This is a 12-month, full-time, non-exempt position.
Schedule: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, some evenings and weekends will be required.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Lead Security and Transportation Coordinator is responsible for supporting the safety, security, and transportation operations of Cheshire Academy. This position helps ensure a safe and secure campus environment for students, employees, and visitors through proactive monitoring, emergency preparedness, transportation coordination, and oversight of security operations and procedures. The coordinator serves as a key liaison with outside vendors, contractors, and emergency response agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Campus Safety and Security
- Promote and maintain a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Identify, assess, and respond to security and safety concerns across campus.
- Assist in the development, implementation, enforcement, and ongoing review of campus safety and emergency procedures and protocols.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signage, and related safety equipment.
- Oversee and support evening security personnel and related security operations.
- Issue and monitor parking permits, security badges, and visitor access procedures.
- Ensure compliance with campus security procedures for visitors, vendors, and contractors.
- Provide escorts and security support as needed.
- Assist with investigations related to safety concerns, policy violations, property loss, or incidents occurring on campus.
- Prepare and maintain reports related to security operations, incidents, investigations, and safety matters.
- Protect and preserve school property and assets.
Emergency Preparedness and Vendor Coordination
- Serve as a liaison with external safety and security vendors and agencies, including alarm monitoring companies, fire alarm vendors, elevator service providers, Alertus emergency notification system representatives, and local police, fire, and emergency response agencies.
- Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with external partners and emergency responders.
- Participate as a member of the School’s Safety Committee.
Transportation Coordination
- Coordinate transportation-related operational needs for school vehicles and buses.
- Schedule and manage vehicle maintenance, servicing, emissions inspections, and related compliance requirements.
- Coordinate fueling and upkeep of school vehicles.
- Arrange transportation-related service appointments and support operational readiness of the fleet.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in on-call responsibilities related to campus emergencies, including fire alarms and urgent safety matters.
- Provide security oversight for rentals, special events, and off-hours campus activities as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding school operations, personnel matters, student information, and security-related incidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience in security, safety, facilities operations, transportation coordination, law enforcement, military service, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience working in a school, college, or residential environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, employees, vendors, and public safety officials.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk campus grounds and respond to emergencies in various weather conditions and environments.
