Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Epidemiologist to manage and analyze critical health data related to environmental diseases and conditions for the Florida Environmental Public Health Tracking program. In this role, you will play a vital part in monitoring public health significance through various data sources, including ESSENCE-FL, Hospital Discharge Data, Emergency Department Data, Vital Statistics, the Florida Birth Defects Registry, and the Florida Cancer Registry. Preferred candidates would be located in Tallahassee, Florida. WiredPeople is open to remote candidates residing within Florida state lines.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Epidemiologist, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and program partners to support the state's environmental health initiatives. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Data Analysis & Surveillance
- Review existing API feeds and data sources concerning air, water, and soil quality conditions of public health significance.
- Analyze trends over time for environmental health conditions.
- Monitor data submitted to the Florida Tracking site and data explorer portal.
- Work alongside the integration broker to ensure submitted files are accurately received and displayed.
- Troubleshoot system connectivity, evaluate data anomalies, and propose solutions to system bugs.
- Produce and disseminate annual summary reports using data from the Agency for Health Care Administration and Vital Statistics.
- Provide technical assistance, consultative services, and direction for the development, implementation, and evaluation of environmental health data sources.
- Support the compilation of performance metrics for the Environmental Public Health Tracking Cooperative Agreement.
- Assist county health departments in designing and evaluating health initiatives aimed at improving environmental health indicators.
- Summarize weekly activities and present key findings.
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to environmental health conditions.
- Serve as a primary liaison 3 different areas.
- Ensure strict compliance with all Department data security and confidentiality procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Working knowledge and deep understanding of public health scientific principles and policies related to epidemiology.
- Proven capacity to effectively prioritize workloads and consistently meet project deadlines.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the interpersonal finesse required to collaborate seamlessly with various staff members, program partners, and external agencies.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities and projects simultaneously.
